There are so many people here in need. Our jobs are being outsourced, there is poverty, homelessness, abused children and spouses, children of drug addicts who are stuck in a broken foster care system, children who need to be adopted, drugs, not enough police on our city streets, and on and on it goes. Fire departments need to beg for donations to but needed equipment, our schools are under-funded, and our taxes keep rising, while programs are being cut. But Bono sits on his million dollar pulpit and gets star-struck idealists rallied about Africa!

instead of sending money to war funds every year we could be solving national problems in this country. for example: approximately 4 billion dollars has been taken out of social security's money to fund the war in iraq. our kids will be the ones to suffer for this. we could solve the gas prices problem with all the money we've spent on war. we could build electric railway systems like in foreign countries, and do away with cars. yet our government keeps putting all our money into this war. we go deeper in debt everyday. someone will have to pay someday and i hope its not my descendents.

Beck I agree with you about Bono, Sure your government could waist a lot less money on no essential programs and take better care of its citizens and essential programs, and you do have a lot of problems in the USA, but if you look realistically around how other people in different nation fare, probably you will be glad that you belong and live in the best nation on the planet there is not shangry la nowhere and of all the problems you claim to afflict your country, you still have for the last five or six years the fastest growing economy in the western world, unemployment also at the lowest level in many years no one is dyng of famine or for lack medical attention. Sure very many billions were spent for the war in afganistan and Iraq, I don't think they were waisted as it seems. As the leading nation of the world both economically and militarily, your nation has to assume a great responsibility, and that is to fight the terrorism that has been killing American citizens for over 30 years, if your country does not take on that responsability, there are not other nation with the courage and the resolve to lead that war, After your money has contributed to raise Germany from the ashes of the second world war, has refused along with france (similar story there) and many other nation that your country has helped in the past, have also refused to back up your country, in a few years or less terrorism will be history, thank to your stance, the role that your country has to play probably is God will, for without your great heart where would this world be today? On a dayly bases both the Cubans and very many citizens from many other nation in the world risk their lives to be able to set foot on your shores, to grab gratifully at the opportunity your great nation has to offer, so girl what are you bitching about ? I am an Italian citizen, I live well in my country, but never as well as when I lived in yours that sweet parfume of freedom not encountered nowhere else is enoufh to make me long for America, is it just a dream? no lady it is a reality, enjoy it to the fullest there is no better place on the planet. Ciao

Help is needed all around the globe. It is fine for wonderful people like Bono to help those in need in Africa or wherever else. As long as he is "helping" someone somewhere. The only problem I have is when the government and other businesses, outsource jobs to other countries after they have laid off or eliminated positions here at home. The IRS has laid of thousands and outsourced to India. If the problem is money, can we not create a less paying position for someone internally.
We have numerous agencies and organizations that were founded to help those in need here the US. We just need to do our part as individuals. What are you doing to help?

America could wipe out hunger! Right now we are too busy spending 1/2 Trillion on a war, which isn't even part of Bush's 8 TRILLION 400 BILLION dollar deficit.

Before a single dime is spent in this country, 1/2 of the budget goes to pay the interest on the debt and the military!

Ditto. Look also at hospital's closing due to lack of funds, and the condition of schools-not enough money to educate. The children of today are getting a 3rd world education-a sad statement for such a powerful nation.
Now look at history-Rome did indeed fall...it's just a matter of time here. Do we have any control? YES! VOTE FOR THOSE WILLING TO STAND UP FOR THIS COUNTRY. Forget about the two parties and vote for individuals who are not intimidated by special interest or cultures wanting to take over. Yes we have the power but its useless if not used!

i`m sure the people who receive the cash are very very thank full, some people do actually depend on donations just to survive. it`s about being a united world, and helping each other to progress as a collective. 99.9%t of the problems in America are caused by their own people, and a the biggest mafia in the world , the American government. you must learn how to help others before you learn how to help yourself. the money doesn't disappear, what goes out will come back in another form, the money just circulates the globe then ends up in the politicians pockets. corruption is the enemy not charity.

Right on! If we were not spending millions on this stupid war we're in, we could take care of America's problems which I think should be first and foremost on everyone mind. Americans are very generous people, Sri Lanka, Katrina, Africa. We have given many millions. It is time however for the government to set the tone for this country. They don't care and unless people SEE a tragedy happening, they are unaware.

Based on the way the world views our interest and hopes of defending ourselves from fanatics (al queda) I would agree with you. If you think its bad now get ready to oppose the "one.org" cause the movie star left wingers are pushing - they want a 1% income tax to save the world. Which merely means employ a few more bureacrats and foster a little more hate on America.

THE USA BORROW two (some say FIVE) billion dollars every day. That money goes right into the pockets of the corporate american fascists. But Americans shouldn't worry. It's their kids, and their kids' kids, and those after them that will be asked to pay back. :)
