You could try turning off the yahoo toolbar and tell Yahoo messenger to not load at boot up in the setting menu of the messenger. You could also turn off other start ups that may be slowing your boot up time. Plus you could get an optimiser program like Tuneup Utilities to streamline you boot up sequence and get rid of non useful programs etc. Use the link to download the trial version of this great program, Good Luck!

Could be the settings on Messenger. There is the option to connect to it every time you connect to the internet. That could be slowing things down. Another thing that slows it down is the annoying window of news and stuff that pops up when you start Messenger. You can also disable that through options.
More likely than those being problems is adware/spyware. I suggest going to http://www.safer-networking.org/ and downloading Spybot S & D. I have it on my computer. Anytime I notice it slowing down I run Spybot & it finds alot of spyware. Try it. If you notice it makes a difference shoot a donation to the guy who wrote Spybot. He lets anyone use it totally for free - which is super nice.

Yahoo Messenger is a POS.
Download AIM here:
http://www.aim.com/get_aim/win/other_win.adp
or, if you really need yahoo messenger for some strange reason, download Trillian here:
http://www.download.com/Trillian/3000-2150_4-10367846.html?tag=pdp_prod
Trillian is a multi-function IM exe that will allow you to use MSN, Yahoo, AIM, etc, but it crashes a little more often than AIM...but a LOT less often than MSN or Yahoo's messegners.

You do not have enough internal memory to hold all the programs at the same time. Therefore part will go into the swap-file. You can notice this since the hard disk is running like crazy and by the System-Taskmanager (look at the swapfile size).
You can solve the problem either be de-installing it or upgrade your computer with extra memory.
Good luck with it!

I don't think it's Yahoo! Messenger, it could be that if your PC is old, and your CPU speed is under 700mhz than it will take a LONG time to load everyhting... or maybe yiou don't have enough RAM..
if none of these are true, then try downloading IE7, the newest..
http://microsoft.com/ie
also, tryupgrading Yahoo! Messenger....you couod try Customer Service(yahoo.)

Use the browser version of messenger and also you need to be high quality. I hear this also that Yahoo Messenger had some virus issues. i don't believe of they arrive from Yahoo yet from some those who use Yahoo to deliver them.
