Feminism assumes the roles of men and women are merely enforced and preserved by social pressure and customs. However, if this is true, why are these same roles so consistant, (though with exception) throughout all of nature?
Throughout nature males defend the females while the females defend their young. Throughout nature females, instinctively, bond with, nurture, and care for their young. Throughout nature, females are dominantly appreciated for their maternal and domestic wisdom. Throughout nature, the males oversee all the herd, flock, or society, (with few exceptions).
Though there are species in which gender roles are switched, these are greatly outnumbered by those practicing 'traditional' roles. If the supposed roles of men and women, (practiced for thousands of years) are solely enforced by social pressure and tradition, why are they upheld by nature?

irina, that is an assumption. If man's roles were only a mimic of nature, why do our bodies also enforce these "stereotypes"?

musicalmarz, actually, you sound rather ignorant. Your definition of feminism sounds respectable. However, how many feminists speak as you do?

Jane I, I thought you were feminist? Are you actually a feminist by its original definition; the simple desire for both men and women to be equally respected despite any natural differences?

It is because modern feminism is based in egotism. Their politics were built on the belief there is no 'nature', there is no mental, intellectual or emotional difference between the sexes. It is all engraved on you from cradle to the grave assuming you are born a "clean slate" .
Of course we know know this is all hogwash--or most of us should know that anyway.
Not only are geneticists discovering there are truly real differences between the sexes, but they are beginning to see that genes play a role in an individual's very personality.
Plus, anyone who has children, no matter how hard you try, ordinarily, a boy is not going to want to play with barbie and a girl is not going to want to play with guns. There are some exceptions, but their is a definate rule, just like in nature, as you say. The feminists wanted to deny that there is something "normal"--they are still doing this through the gay and lesbian movement. And those feminists back then in the 60's and 70's were mostly lesbians. Of course, the feminists were WRONG about so many things. Unfortunately, I've seen so many women, but only on certain subjects, cling to this false idea of it all about being "society", "culture" and how your parents brought you up. Science is on a continuing investigative journey and shooting down that theory in the process.
and musical is right about what feminism might have morphed into and the accepted wisdom of today, making room for genetic discovery and much controversy, however, she appears not to know the radical beliefs of the feminist movement of the sixties and seventies, which was that "there is absolutely no difference between the sexes" they clung to that belief like a religion, and many still do. Do you know how ridiculous Gloria Steinem sounds when she absolutely denies any difference at all between little boys and girls and that "studies that investigate these differences shouldn't even be conducted"?

Perhaps I am ignorant, but I just don't get what some of these people are trying to say!
I think that feminism is a choice that a woman makes. It has nothing to do with power, suppression, inferiority, intelligence, etc. It is a state of mind.
I am independent and strong by nature, but if I were given the choice in life, not to live it the way I do out of necessity, I would love to take up the traditional role of wife, mother and carer.
Besides, I'm sick of mowing the lawn and putting out the trash!

Your rather ignorant. Feminism means believing that women should have equal rights. Equal does not always mean the same.
Women adn men can have different roles, provided that a)should they want to step outside that role, they are completly free to do so and b) each is RESPECTED EQUALLY for that role. The mistake men make is to think that in a hunter gatherer society, hunting is more important that gathering. Feminists don't say that women should be completly equal in everything, only that they be free to adopt whatever roles they want and be respected for what they do, be it a "womans" role or a "mans" role.

I don't believe in feminism's idea that society determined western gender roles. God made man and woman as complements. Women are never less than men, men are never less or greater than women. The are both two parts to a whole, two halves that make one, and I don't believe that because women fill a certain role, that means they are inferior or held back from leading a full life. When women's actual rights are witheld, that's where society comes in.
but many societies do decide on gender roles. Some are matriarchal, patriachal, or sexist. Society does play a part.

'Pop' feminism likes to place the blame for all gender inequality on society, this way they don't have to accept the individual's responsibility or part in causing and prolonging the inequality.
Not all women are unequal. Those that go furthest are, like many of the males they emulate, mostly devoted to their work at the expense of family. This is a corporation vs family issue, not a male vs female issue.

Well, they are enforced by socitety and tradition, but did you question yourself where did the inspiration for tradition and social behaviour came from? People observed what already existed in nature and, after reshaping it, obtained pur current society.

Gender roles in the relatives are out of date. Now that we are really a lot forced to have 2 income households both anybody is searching after the house responsibilities. salary transformations are in protecting with vast difference in selection, and not in any respect fairly gender..... particular women anybody is extra probably to settle on childcare over artwork, yet we also needs to seem on the societal pressures adult men face even as they prefer to settle on children over artwork.... i in my opinion changed into fired from a job for desirous to spend time with my children.....This has befell to me distinctive circumstances, even as a job tells me to settle on, i elect my children..... a guy isn't predicted to do this and negative aspects dropping ones pastime, even as a lady is "allowed" do take extra day off..... universal this outcomes the children in protecting with particular circumstances.... If both dad and mom are operating finished time and fewer than pressure out without launch or relax ime, that is risky to the children. If a relatives is fortunate to have a figure who can stay homestead they wind up doing a lot extra acceptable....
