I think India has enormous potential and will soon become a major world player, if they are not so already.

India has a stable and democratic political system, which is impressive considering the diversity of it's people and the internal and external stresses they face. India is an assertive nation, able to cooperate but not under anyone's domination.

The Indian economy has seen strong growth in recent years, and I believe they could surpass many of the economic powerhouses of the world with further economic liberalization, particularly in the areas of trade, labor law, and industry privatization.

Militarily speaking, India has considerable strength. They are of course a nuclear power. But they also have the second largest standing army in the world, and a huge pool of reserve manpower. In recent excercises, their Air Force proved to be quite skilled, holding their own against the U.S. Air Force. Many Americans believe India will be their most important ally in coming decades.
