How can you tell the sex of your unborn child without having a scan?

I have heard thatif your all back its a boy and all front its a girl. I have also read that swinging a ring attached to the mothers hair above your belly can show the sex by which way the ring spins, although we cant remember which way means what.

Does anyone have any other old wives tales etc and could you tell the sex before the birth?

None of those methods actually work, but theres another one that if the baby's heart beat is consistantly below 140, it's a boy, and if it's consistantly above 140, it's a girl. But the only way to really know is to get a scan.

You can't. The old wives tales are just that - old wives tales.

They say if the baby's heartbeat is fast than about 140 bpm its a girl and lower its a boy. But when my mum was pregnant with my brother they told her it was a girl from the heartbeat! We still tease my (6 tall and very masculine) brother over that!!!

The ring test is another one.

They also say if you carry low down or the bump has a pointed shape its a boy, but if you carry high and its a rounded shape its a girl.

I'm a having a boy and the chinese lunar calendar was right for me, but the ring test wasn't!!!! I am carrying low down. My baby's heartbeat has varied so that itsn't really accurate either.

As for the morning sickness thing - well I've had terrible sickness and have been confirmed as having a boy. So that doesn't work!

Everyone said I was having a boy because I was all out at the front when I was pregnant. I really don't believe in much if these wife tails. My friend took my wedding ring on a piece of thread and put it on top of my palm. If it goes round and round it's a girl and if it swings back and forth it's a boy. She also did it to another friend at the same time and it swung back and forth indicating she would have a boy. Mine went round and round so my friend was convinced I was having a girl. I had a strong feeling I was having a boy, so to my amazement, I gave birth to a gorgeous little girl. My other pregnant friend gave birth 10 Weeks later to a bouncing baby boy. I'm not sure if this is purely coincidence or not. I would take this procedure as a bit of fun, it doesn't really matter what you have, as long as you have a healthy baby at the end of the day, count your blessings. Good luck

I have a boy and girl and let me tell you the pregnancies were totally different. With my son I was all front, with limited weight gain, very bad morning sickness until 3 months, sever cramps in my legs and very strong baby movements. I also had an overwhelming feeling in the last few days before the birth it was a boy. Now with my daughter, I was very round, with a high weight gain, wasn't sick once, yet felt incredibly sick for nearly the whole pregnancy, bad heartburn, with small baby movements. I was told during my scan I was having a girl, although seeing the pregnancy was so different, I think I already knew that. I am 12 weeks preg., and had this same ques. I went to google and typed in "How can I tell if having a boy or girl"? They had me answer several ques., then returned with an answer right away. The ring and hair thing, is similar to one of the things they have you do except you use a needle and thread. You lay on your back and let someone hold the thread with the needle above your belly button (steady) if the needle goes in a circle, it's a boy, if lines going up and down, it's a girl. Good luck!

Hey this is a method you or anyone can try at Home. Take a crystal or ring or any thing and tie it with a thread (about 1feet lont ) and before doing the test do some practice as follows. First of all place your elbow on a table and hang this pendulum and with your brain order it to move in circles clockwise, dont move it with your hand. You will be surprised that it will follow ur mental advice. Now tell to move in other direction, and it will move that way, change the directions after every 30-40 seconds after its fully following your advice. Make sure u r not moving ur hand only mental suggestions to the pendulum.

Now after this practice its all synchronised with you now. Now u ask it that what way will it move if it wants to say yes. Repead this Q again and again until it starts moving in a particular way, could be anyway circles-clockwise, circles-anticlockwise, front & back or sidewise, could be anyway. But repeat the Q until u r sure what it is saying. Now remember it. After that ask it that what way will it move when its going to say NO. Repeat you Q mentally untill you get the definite answer. After getting the two movements from this pendulem now u are ready to ask your desired Question.

Place the pendulum about 1-2 inches from your wife/GF's belly and ask precisely what you want to ask - for eg. Is the unborn baby in my XXXX's belly ia girl, is the unborn....... repeat it until it moves in a certain direction..... You will get ur answer in yes or no which it has told you beforehand few minutes ago that it will move this way for yes and that way for NO.

But to make sure, try this with saying boy now. like - Is the unborn baby ........is a boy, is the ......... a boy, again and again until you get an answer.

I hope that you will get the answer. And yes, you can ask this pendulum any question, any one which it will answer yes or no. But before aksing the question always ask it for its movements for yes and no. Every time it may differ or for you it may be same. Its all depends on your synchronisation with the pendulum. Make sure that if any other person wants to use this pendulum dont let it. Instead ask them or make them to use another pendulum with some other thing. Keep it personal. You can ask it any question for your day to day life.

These are all great old wives tales. You can use a needle or crystal on a thread. Circular motion is a girl & backwards & forwards is a boy but, someone else might say the opposite. Sometimes you have a gut feeling but , I think that's more wishful thinking than anything else.

That is a old wives tale. Enjoy your pregnancy and don't worry about the sex. You will have to have a routine Ultrasound regardless and at that time if you need to know (with you Dr's. pre-approval) you can find out. Ask your Dr. to mark on the form that they can indicate the sex to you if you are interest. Best of Luck

All of these things you describe are called "Old Wives Tales". You cannot tell.
