To learn what's out there. Answer questions that keep many from their beds at night and wondering who and what we are. What is our purpose?

Space has much to offer. It has an abundance of elements for our use, diamonds, precious metals, new worlds to colonize (if we figure out how), examples for us to help understand our own planet, to further our scientific knowledge, the search for extraterrestrial life, and the fact that it is reality.

A waist of money?? You must be joking. I'll repeat: "an endless supply of elements, new worlds to colonize, new science,....". Besides the space industry is now formed. Since it is being privatized don't you think that it would be impossible to kick start this process if investors felt there was no money in it?? There is endless possibility in space and we are looking for ways to continue our race. If we just sit here on this planet, eventually we WILL perish. Its just a matter of when.

The purpose of going to outer space is to expand our knowledge and to find resources to replace our depleting ones here on earth.

"Space the final frontier... to go where no man has ever gone before... ."

I don't consider it a total waste of money...but it shouldn't have priority when our country has such an enormous deficit. There is nothing there we need to know immediately.

I'm sure the same was said of Christopher Columbus, or Marco Polo. Why take the risk?

But withou risk, there is no reward.

If we don't explore and see what can be attained, then we'll never expand our horizons.
