Jonny depp is THE greatest actor out there and he cant win an award if his life depended on it. What is it that all these diff. academys are looking for. Maybe there looking for a underskilled actor? Please respond

Because the Academy is not representing the fans at all. They board members of an organization. You can become a memeber too, if you have the money to pay. It is up to the board if someone is even nominated. I know it sucks, it should be up to the fans and it should be based on the actor/actress talents. But this is America-we are stupid like that.

Johnny Depp is a great actor-he doesn't win because he doesn't care! He lives is France and pretty much says he is never going to live in the States again. Whoever said Johnny Depp is an "eye candy" actor is wrong. He is not exactly attractive as a Pirate. An "eye candy" actor would be Ashton Kutcher.

Let me explain something to you, kid -
First of all, Johnny Depp is not a great actor. He's what we call an "eyecandy" actor.
Simply put, what it means is Pirates of the Carribean itself is a bad, poorly-made movie. The movie company knows this and they know that without eyecandy, the movie will not make enough money in the theaters to offset the cost of making the movie itself. They need to make money.
So, they hire people like Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom to act in the movie. Why? Because they know that Depp and Bloom will attract millions of teenage girls who think they're cute - nevermind their acting - just their looks - and that will rake in millions of dollars.
This is the main reason I avoid silly movies like Pirates. If they want people to see it for what it's *supposed* to be - a worthwhile movie, then they should hire real actors who are respected by the industry and can actually act. Orlando Bloom can not act. He's just some more eyecandy for the girls to rake in more money. It's pathetic, I know, but it's true.

I think when an actor or actress is really good and they do slip by without winnng an award, as time goes on it is even harder for them to win. I believe it is often a new actor or one that has repeatedly won that wins.....but you never know maybe someday he will win because I agree he is a great actor.

to me jonny depp is a GREAT actor and he is so freakin funny and he is hot i think he should win an award for his new movie pirates of the carrabein he is so good in that movie.

johnny depp has won 13 awards (since 1999). none of which are oscars but, he'll have one soon (i'm sure). he has been nominated for two oscars in the past. that's the first step.
