Rock: circa 1970 to 1988--bar none, the best years the genre ever fully enjoyed. After '88: rock fuzzed off into "grunge", and from there....all sense of talent and pride in music production was violently trashed and "alternative rock" was born. Sadly, we're forced by major record labels to be exposed to such garbage.
Today, one band's guitar riffs sound flat, distortedly "metal" and no different from any other band's guitar sounds.
Rap: rife with urban (black/hispanic gang membership) violence ( murder--either by gun or "jugging" knife), drugs (coke/crack/meth dealing and sales), sex (rape, interracial relations only for inciting hate), reverse racism (see "violence"), prison life ( seems like their only destined place to wind up). Rap has NO positive messages or entertainment value.
Rap is crap--without the letter "c". Between the two: Rap needs to die--fast.
