My friend's father just passed away (whom I did not know). How should I lend the best support to my friend?

just be there for your friend and let your friend know that you can be reached at anytime should he/she need a shoulder to cry/lean on. Sometimes words are not needed, just being there helps.

If your friend is in the same area that you live you can open up the support by taking her family some type of lunch or dinner meal. While you are there dropping it off you should offer your sympathies and let your friend know that you are a phone call away if he/she needs to talk, or drive around or whatever. Don't expect your friend to call, so continue to take things for them to eat. People in mourning tend to not eat right. Each time stay a little longer and offer help doing things around the house. Don't be afraid to ask about the father so you can get a sense of what he meant to them. Just listen, they will tell you what they need to say. Good Luck

Just let her know that if she needs anything or anybody to talk to that she can count on you, that is all you can do, if try to push her into talking or doing stuff that she isn't ready to do then she will push you away. Good luck.

Just be there for her/him. Let her/him remember times with him. If you didn't know him, then just be a listener. He/She'll appreciate it.
