my first broadband experience was with windows 98,bt voyager 205,and usb connection,so i will try to help you
because usb devices are awkward to install on 98 ,i would recommend you do this
uninstall your router software from add\remove programs, restart p.c
now insert your bt broadband disc again and do exactly the same as last time you did it but where it comes to the connection type you should highlight the second box(ethernet),you should of got a ethernet cable with your router kit
this will connect to the ethernet(or network)socket on your p.c and into your router at the back
this will be automatically found by windows 98 and you can use either internet explorer icon or bt broadband icon
if you need to use the usb,you will need a 98 disc and you should go to hardware properties in system(right click...my computer) and were it has the message you are getting ..double click and you will get that devices properties...now look on driver tab and update driver, you should install driver yourself, and insert your 98 disc and on the screen were you pick what devices you want windows to search, you should tick cd-rom and in the drop down box, browse and navigate to system 32 in windows(you can use windows o\s on your p.c,just do the same, browse until you get to system 32
what we are doing is basically finding the driver.cab file that is needed to run your usb device
once you have updated this a box will appear at the bottom saying your hardware is installed
the reason for this is that 98 was developed before usb devices and microsoft didnt fit usb into the operating system, however they have made a few patches to sort this out,you will find them at http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/
i changed to windows xp precisely for this reason, plug and play just made life easier, for example,it took me 10 minutes to install a epsom stylus printer on windows 98,but it only took 5 seconds on xp,why?
because xp installs anything you plug in to it automattically,as it has a massive libary of drivers, and is usb 1.1 and 2.0 compatible
i hope i have helped you with this problem but i would certainly think about upgrading to xp or vista, for security reasons more than anything(updates for 98 stopped for good in june 2006),so you will be open to hackers ,ect
good luck

It nevertheless runs ok on the first computing gadget? yet not on the 2d one? the first computing gadget connects with none issues? this isn't sparkling on your question. if so, there is of route not some thing incorrect with the adapter. So both there is a few thing incorrect with the USB port on the 2d computing gadget or with the motive force set up. Plug yet another USB gadget into the port and confirm that is operating or swap to a special port. attempt downloading a extra recent set of drivers from the Belkin web site.
