Ettins? If they are so sure, why are they so obscure with what they share with the outside world. Because it sounds like a crock, but has a .000001% chance of being true.

L. Rob Hubbard was a science fiction writer who supposedly said to a friend that the best way to get rich in America was to start a religion. The religion he created certainly sounds science fictiony.
Believing in Scientology is stupider than believing there really was a burning bush or a talking snake in the garden.

I checked them out and visited them in DC. It is a cult in every sense of the word. There auditing methods, though I've only been party to the most basic methods, definitely have the potential to brainwash. Ironically, they claim that auditing will un-brainwash someone. I sincerely doubt it would ever be used so benignly. They also claim that through auditing you will bridge all the gaps in your memory clear back to when you were in-utero. Hogwash. And they claim that upon completing it you will, by consequence, be rid of all bad habits. Not true. I spent the night at one of the houses of one of their long-time parishioners. I expected a clean uncluttered house and a person devoid of addictions. Her house, though not filthy, was not tidy by any means and in spite of being a Scientologist for 20 years, she smoked.

It started as a cash scam. A basic pyramid scheme. It has since accumulated so many gullible rubes, (not unlike amway), that it has taken on a life of it's own. Don't worry. Like any other new age tripe, it'll fade as people wise up to it.

if you think scientology has the first thing to do with actual science, you're on crack. it's a religion invented in the late 20th century by American author L. Ron Hubbard. Seems really wacky to me, but to each his own, you know?

I cannot trust a "religion" founded by a man who wrote terrible science fiction books.
