A Pooh was a type of teddy bear made in Great Britain from 1920-1950. Don't you ever watch antiques roadshow?
No I'm joking, but I have many other unanswered question from Winnie the Pooh. Why do Pooh and Piglet only have sleepovers all the time?
Where are Pooh's pants and why does he always pose grabbing his crotch? Rabbit has OCD. Tigger had ADD. Eeeyore in clinically depressed. It's a messed up bunch of stuff in the hundred acre wood

You'd have to ask the author of Winnie the Pooh, A. A. Milne, but unfortunately he died in 1956. I can tell you that Milne wrote the story after his son Christopher Robin was born. His son became the central character in the story along with his teddy bear which was named "Pooh." Now how Milne came up with the name Winnie for the bear I don't know.

What I really wanna know is why they called HIM Winnie... Winnie is clearly a girls name. Short for Winifred. So Winnie is a BOY bear..wtf? I think they call him Pooh because he's a lil stinker. But then again, what the hell kinda trouble does HE get into? None. He's like Christopher Robin's scapegoat....poor thing gets blamed for everything that lil turd does. I guess I really didn't answer you, just created more questions...ugh!

I've heard the author named him after two swans he used to take his son to visit at the zoo. One was named Winnie the other named Pooh. I don't know how the swans got these names.

Winnie is a nickname of Edward, which is "Pooh's" formal name. AA Milne was British and wrote during and after the time of King Edward (forget the number - son of Victoria). "Winnie" was a nickname of him. "Pooh" was a term of endearment at that time.

well dark booty, you see long ago, there was a certain kind of bear that roamed the mountainous regions of north dakota, these bears were among the few bears that could actually control the way they made thier growls come out of thier mouths, they almost sounded like they were mimicing people talking, local park rangers gathered to make documentation of these strange occurances, they tape recorded the noises and went to the news and other media in an attempt to reap some riches from these unique creatures, so the park rangers fashioned the lead bear of the pack a comfortable shirt made of high quality 100% cotton, it was red so they could visibly see it from afar, so one day the bear was walking behind his comrade and happened to step in his buddy's droppings, the bear exclaimed, 'oh dear, i seem to have stepped in a rather large pile of pooh" so the park ranger named him winnie, and named the other one yogi, then yogi would always drive the park ranger's car around to steal people's lunch boxes and crash thier parties, and this is how it all came about!!

Why is Mickey Mouse called Mickey Mouse? It is because the people who created the characters so named them. Much like when parents name their children. Why? Who knows why?
I wouldn't read into it too much, what is a "Pooh". I think our society has a tendency to overanalyze everything. Pretty soon we'll not be able to walk or talk because of analysis paralysis.
