Steelers win. The quarterbacks and receivers cancel each other out, and everyone talks about that Steel Curtain defense (and rightfully so), but the true X-factor in the game would be Pittsburgh's Number 34. There's just no way the 49ers defense would have been able to stop Franco Harris in his prime. He was a 9 time Pro Bowler (1972-1980) with 8 seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards, and from 1974-1979, he rushed for over 1,000 yards each year (as well as 7 of his first 8, but he only gained 698 yards in '73; the other 1,000 yard season was in 1983, his last as a Steeler). In Super Bowl IX, when the Steelers won their first-ever league title with a 16-6 victory over Minnesota, Harris ran for 158 yards on 34 carries (both Super Bowl records at the time) and one touchdown, compared to just 17 yards rushing for the entire Viking team. He was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

Harris held numerous Super Bowl and post-season game records by the end of his career. The most notable are 24 points scored, and his 101 carries for 354 yards are records that stand to this day. His 4 career rushing touchdowns are tied for the second most in Super Bowl history, with 17 touchdowns and 1,556 yards rushing in 19 post-season playoff games.

In the Millenimum Bowl, the final or the Match-up of the Millinemum contest that ESPN did, the Steelers of the 70's beat the 49ers of the 80's with the Immaculate Reception II. If the old adage that defense wins Championships is true then you know the Steelers would win. Before we sit and say hmmm defense vs offense let's remember the Steelers had an offense as well.

Steelers! ESPN did a simulated Super Bowl of all the great teams of the past,a sort of round-robin type of thing. The STEELERS of the 70's defeated the 49ers in the final to win it all.

the steelers for sure when you have arguably the best offense in history along with the best defense in history and with one of the best coaches ever and with an entire city that bleeds black and gold along with 4 championship rings they make the 80's 49ers look like a pop warner football team

Steelers. Love that defense and Franco was a great running back. Even with that bafoon Terry Bradshaw, that team was by far the best.

I have steadily lost respect for ESPN due to Merrill Hodge. the 49ers would win because they have the best QB and WR of all time, and Joe Montana can win anything, no matter how far he's behind. And the odds against another Immaculate Reception happening are too high to stop Joe Montana.

da 49ers!!! especially if it was players from all of the 80's, cuz in the 49ers 1st SB, they had guys like dwight clark, and then later in their 3rd and 4th superbowls they had jerry rice but dwight clark was gone, rice and clark never played together that much so with both on the 49ers they would defeat the steelers
