First off, whatever the grievance was for, I am sorry that she is going through difficult times. A Thank you note doesn't need to be long and tender, only sincere. "Your thoughts are appreciated and your cash gift will be donated in memory of..." Or "Your cash gift is appreciated during this emotionally and financially trying time." Hope this helps
