I'm mixed on this, so I'll go ahead and answer.
The good part about it was that my period stopped altogether. Some thought that was a bad thing, but I rather enjoyed it. NO PERIOD AT ALL. No spotting, light days, nothing! And it was so convenient. Every 3 months, I went to the doctor (my regular doctor, not my obgyn, gave it to me), got a simple shot in the hip, and I was done!
The bad part (and I had no idea these side effects were caused by the shot till my obgyn said so):
I suffered severe (life-altering) migraines, usually 3 times a week ... and it took a few days to get over one. So we're talking continuous pain ... all the time. It got so bad that I pulled my own hair out trying to ease the pain in my head.
On top of that, my back broke out in what we thought were shingles. It was a form of severe acne ... the most horrible my doctor had ever seen. All of my shirts were full of blood on the back ... I could not lay on my back or lean back in a chair.
For my last shot, I went in for it (a new script at my obgyn) and the nurse decided I should see the doctor b/c my head was hurting so badly I was in tears and a zombie like state. My mom came in and told him about the headaches (b/c I could not make a simple complete sentence) and showed him my back. His words were "Oh my, it's the shot. She can't have anymore."
About a week later, after the medicine was out of my body, all of this crap cleared up. I haven't had a migraine in 7 years and my skin is clear (except for the scars).
I have to tell you that for a while, around here, all the women were trying this new "convenient shot". NOT ONE OF THEM stayed on it for more than 6 months. I don't why it's still available. My doctor does not prescribe it anymore and steers women away from it altogether.
Please don't waste your time or your health. I'm guessing that there are more SEVERE side effects other than the headaches and acne .... it's not worth it.

I LOVE Depo. I have been on it for 3 years and the only side effect I have had is the no periods thing, which I happen to think is great. I still have spotting towards the time when I am due to get my shot, but it's not bad at all.
I gained 6-7 lbs the second year I was on Depo, but I'm pretty sure that has a whole lot more to do with a new job in which I am often surrounded by food.
Like I said in another post, I used to get these horrible cramps that would literally make me pass out from the pain. Since I've been on Depo, I have not once had anything like that.
There is the risk of bone thinning after being on it for 2 years, but it has been found to be generally reversible. Just make sure you get enough calcium... from foods is best, but if you can't get enough from food, add a supplement.
So, yes, I have had a wonderful experience with Depo!

I used the depo shot for years with no complications. I also went off the depo shot when trying to conceive my son and went on the pill to regulate my cycle again and I conceived my son within 6 months. Another bonus from the depo shot was no period...just occasional spotting just before the next shot. It is a nice thing when you have to only worry about it every 3 months.

I've been on the shot for approx 6 yrs. and have had no problems. No period is nice and convient. Your question interested me though, I don't remember hearing about any side affects or cases gone wrong.

Yes, I've taken it for a period of time twice... and I'm getting ready to get back on it. No periods, no problems, it was great! Only sucky thing is remembering to get it every three months.
