not really.
They both are caused by viruses but different ones.
The reason that you may get a fever whilst having a cold is that being struck with a cold or for that matter any sickness weakens your immune system and leaves it vulnerable to other viruses, including the fever virus.
Technically though, the fever virus is any virus that has a special coating atround it that makes the body heat up.

Sometimes. If your body detects the pathogen, it will heat itself up to try to 'boil' the pathogen to death (not literally boil, but it is trying to kill them with heat). Fevers are dangerous though, because at certain temperatures (about 105?), your own cells will start to denature, which will cause death if the fever is not brought under control.
