Depends on your definition of a sport.
Personally, I think a sport requires athletic ability and some God-given talent. If you look at the people on the poker tour, they are good at what they do but are not athletes.
Unlike track or basketball, anyone can play poker.

No, Poker is never a sport! It is a card game and card games are not sports.

In Texas, however, everything is a sport. It usually starts out with a person saying, "Check this out..." or "Watch this..." followed by a stupid act which can sometimes turn deadly.

I'm a poker player, and I'm kind of torn on this one. It's definitely not physical like most sports, but it is mentally challenging, and you need endurance to stay sharp while spending twelve hours a day at a table. I honestly wouldn't consider it a sport, but at the same time, I look at a lot of the crap that is considered a sport in the Olympics and it makes me wonder.

The only thing Texas Hold Em has as a sport is that it requires mental endurance...some of these tournament rounds last over 12 hours...and one mistake in Texas Hold Em could be the only one needed to send you packing.

That being said, it's not a sport...it's a recreation.

Frankly, the concept of your question is incorrect considering, technically, poker IS a interest. it truly is the first actual definition listed by technique of Merriam-Webster for the be conscious "interest:" 'a million a : a source of diversion : interest' And it truly is the Wikipedia itemizing for "interest:" 'interest is an interest it is ruled by technique of a set of guidelines or customs and in many circumstances engaged in competitively. activities frequently confer with activities the position the actual features of the competitor are the only or regularly happening determiner of the accurate result (triumphing or dropping), in spite of the indisputable fact that the time period is likewise used to contain activities consisting of suggestions activities and motor activities the position psychological acuity or kit high quality are significant aspects.' also, if memory serves, I once study the first actual recognized (or per chance it became around the international-recognized) and ruled "interest" became actual CHESS! today it is ruled by technique of the FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs). So, decrease back to the argument... there is absolute self belief poker isn't any a lot less actual than chess in spite of the indisputable fact that both, technically, fall lower than the label of "interest" as they're both sources of diversion, leisure, and earnings on psychological acuity. it truly is why it is on activities channels. If the channels in question were strictly "athletic" channels, your question may carry better credence. per chance you ought to have requested why poker became ever on Discovery or the shuttle Channel.
