All tanks less then a year old commonly suffer from this problem. Increased filtration or a water skimmer helps. So will a wave-maker. You need to increase the water flow in your tank. I find that large snails do a better job then hermit crabs but your hermit crabs will slowly pick off your snails so that you will have to replace them occasionally. A turkey baster will remove the stuff from your rocks and a razor glass scraper from a paint department will clean your glass better without scratching it an delay the regrowth. I have a horseshoe crab that does a great job of stirring up the substrate and keeping it looking like new. Weekly water changes are essential and you must use reverse osmosis cleaned water.

Our pediatrician had this problem.... they had to break down the tank and clean everyting well and then re-fill it. You have Hermits which is good but do not give them too mouch food, let them clean instead, also you can get marine algae eaters which are both sucker type fish varieties and regular fish looking fish, and little shrimps, a star fish or two and hopefully that will help.
You are really going to need to get your water tested though because something is wrong, be it PH or the filter system is not functioning at 100%/
If you take a water sample to a quality marine aquarium store and explain what you have in there. the history of the tank etc.. they may be able to help. Just do not be surprised when they say you need to deep clean.
Good luck!

cyanobacteria usually is blue green colour. Make sure that your not overfeeding, overcrowding the fish, or have any dead plants. Clean the gravel or sand and change 1/3 water but not the filter. Scrape the algae off of the glass. Sucker fish wont eat it because its a bacteria so dont try to buy them. hope it helps

get an algea sucker they look like realy big tadpoles and they will clean up algea wherever it is, on the lil plastic plants, the rocks on the bottom, the side glass etc. . sometimes when they suck the algea off the bottom rocks they will suck up some rocks so dont worry if this happens because they will spit it back out if they dont then you might want to do something about it but i don't know if you want to call the vet out for a fish.
hope it helps good luck.

Algae eater fish might help. Sounds like a chemical problem. Might need to check with a pet store.

test the water. usually its very high silicates, nitrate and especially phosphate.
Once you get rid of that all shoudl be good.
make sure you wash that stuff off every day. and suck it up wiht a gravel vacuum.
Once it gets inyoru tank it will always bethere. so you haev to keep yoru tank water extra clean.
They also have some products to get rid of it till you get yoru water back in shpae.
