Treatment of Scars, use Vitamin E Oil!
Feb 25 '01

The Bottom Line After being left with a dime-sized keloid scar, I have applied Vitamin E and seen good results!

About 5 years ago, after some steady visiting to my dermatologist, I was told that I would have some minor surgery done to remove a mole that could have been cancerous. I didn't really worry about the light operation as much as I did the fact that if they don't remove this tiny mole on my neck, I could have cancer.

My mole was pretty small and had been there since I was very young. The mole was on the right side of my neck about an inch (barely) below my jaw line, towards my ear. It was pretty noticeable so I was kind of skeptikal as to what the scar would turn out like but went ahead with the operation.

After my minor surgery my dermatologist gave me a special hard-gel type medicine that I had to cut up into small squares to cover the scar at night. This medicine would help reduce the size of my scar and dull the redness a bit. I needed this special hard-gel because I was left with a keloid scar. Keloid scars are most commonly found on people of darker skin tones, unlike me, and are found to be a little bigger than normal scars, not very normal, a little bit itchy, and are rarely able to be diminished or totally removed.

I continued to wear the patches to bed every night, just like my doctor ordered. The scar went down a bit but until this day has remained a little pink in color, sometimes itchy, and a bit larger than the actual incision. The scar itself almost resembles a burn scar.

Recently though, I was at my hairdresser when he noticed my scar and asked if it was a burn. I said no so he gave me a little pointer on how to remove it. He had had an ice skate blade go across his nose when he was 17 and his face was all cut up. After his accident he told me that he just kept putting Vitamin E on his scar and eventually, the scar disappeared. I looked at his face and found myself almost searching for even a small scar but couldn't find one. This brought me new hope to the removal of my scar tissue.

A few days later I made a trip to GNC looking for some Vitamin E capsules that I could break then use on my scar. The woman that worked there then pointed me out to some ointment that contained 1400 I.U. of Vitamin E. This sounded pretty good to me so I bought two tubes of the ointment at $1.35 a piece.

I applied the ointment right away and use it as often as I can now. The scar is still there but seems to be fading a little. The key to actually removing a scar (not keloid in all cases) is to apply Vitamin E oil or the ointment religiously, meaning all the time! Unfortunately I am left with a keloid scar which will take much longer to vanish, but with the help of my Vitamin E I think in a few months or years (who knows!) my scar will hopefully be all gone.

This works for some people, and for others it won't work. Obviously your skin is aggravated from the use of toothpaste. Try Neutrogena 2 in 1 Rapid Fight & Fade Gel. Or the Clean & Clear acne kit product for only $20.

I used Mederma for a burn that I had on my arm, and it worked great. A few years ago, one of my students was in a car accident that cut up her forehead, and she used Mederma. You can't even see anything on her now. Good luck!
