Both. Science is a method, a field, a means for seeking ends in terms of questions you may have and what those solutions may be.

So, if the ends do not of themselves justify the means, and science is a collective of various means for the pursuit of those ends, it can easily be stated that science is both good and bad.

The question, then, is how to define good/bad.

It depends on whether you believe that knowledge of ourselves and the world that we live it is good or bad. Since science works to bring us closer to this knowledge, which I consider to be a good, then science is a good thing. It has the appearance of being a bad thing at times as there are those that use this knowledge in evil ways. However, that is more of a function of perverting knowledge to enact an evil act. (An example would be where a syringe that can administer a life-saving drug can also be used to inject someone with a poison.)

Actually, science is independent of morality. It is the results that science yields that brings morality into play. Using knowledge to commit evil acts does not mean that the knowledge is bad, just perverted.. Using knowledge to improve the human condition isn't in of itself good, but I believe it to be an improvement over ignorance.

Good, indeed.

Science is tool to recognize the existing errors and then correct them if we want to. It is up to us to use it for the betterment or the destruction of ourselves, the society, and the surroundings. The spirit of science is not just for the books but for practicing.

IMHO - This is the process that helps us define, recognize what is apparent and the real.

Good or bad in what way? In a mundane sense or something more esoteric?

It's good for society and anyone who argues differently is only pushing their own agenda of faith above reason.

In the more esoteric sense, if history (and science fiction!) teaches us anything it's that the bearer of a technology of infinitely more important than the technology itself!

Science in itself is good. It is the use of the results of scientific study and discovery which can be good or bad.

The word.science" basically means "Knowledge" Is knowledge good or bad? you tell me.

Or are you speaking of the various disciplines of science, such as biology and chemistry, etc.? In which case you need to make your question clear.

Hi,

Scientists don't say it is bad. They are interested in science just like wrestlers are interested in wrestling.

I don't find anything bad, but extremely good. It helps the world also from asteroids, and other risks.

it is like guns and bullets. None of them are bad by themselves, it's when you put people in control of it, that you can have good or bad applications of science, the same as you can have good and bad uses of guns and bullets.
