i set up at sports card shows and lost about 2000 cards in the accident. they ended up all over the road in the rain making them worthless

The at fault party is responsible for ALL the damage that they caused. You will need to be able to prove your loss, but the other driver (or their insurance company ) will have to pay for your loss.

You may have to sue them, but usually if you can prove the loss of the item, and the value, they will settle!

It all depends on the insurance coverage they had and how much the cards were worth. If they don't cover it then your insurance company will if you got property damage protection.

contents are covered by your homeowner or renters policy you car insurance only pays for the car either way by the time they finish you'll probably get little if any compensation
