She keeps buying more because she truly can't find anything to wear! Everything is either dirty or just in a pile somewhere on the floor. Are there organizers out there who specialize in this area?
If so, what do they charge?

There are professional organizers who can help, but I don't think that's the problem here, to be honest.

1. Your daughter is 24. I'm assuming she's paying for the new clothes she buys? If you are, then stop immediately.

2. Your daughter is 24. I'm assuming she's paying you rent. If she's not (because she's spending all her money on clothes) you need to start charging her.

3. Your daughter is 24. If she's paying you rent and has enough left over to keep buying clothes, then I assume she has a door to her room. Close it. And don't look back.

You are not going to change her. That will come when she get's sick of it herself.

And, I don't mean to sound harsh about your daughter. I'm sure she's a wonderful person. But, I moved into my first apartment when I was 21. I had clothes all over my bedroom floor, too. Sometimes, I still do. :)

Good luck!

First of all, she is too old for you to be concerned with anything is doing. Until she sees this as a problem, nothing will be changed.

As to the exact problem, first she needs to go through all the clothes and give some/throw some away. Then she needs to organize her closets & dressers. There are many books & websites on how to do this. I would suggest going to a store like the Container Store, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target or Walmart, and getting closet organizers like bins, racks, shelves, etc.

Another tip would be to store out of season clothes (winter clothes) in bins out of sight somewhere-- storage closet, under the bed, garage, etc.

I think its a bit late for that!

You should of started this, when she was a teenager, hanging up her clothes, and keeping them neat...
Now, she has that "habit", and will continue on doing this as its a learned trait.

You need to get her to wash her clothes, and hang them up. If you nag, then she will rebel. If you "help", then she may take the help, but, she will fall into this mode a lot more, so you will have to "help" her a lot until it becomes a routine.

Basically, she needs to learn "now", what she should of learned when she was a kid...
Though, it may be harder to train her now, as an adult, its not impossible.

I wish you well..

Jesse

Well...take it easy...your daughter is young and it takes time for her to learn what truly fit her. And time can also improve her taste in clothes and her responsibility to cherish them! You are such a good mother to worry about that.Buy her another wardrobe and get yourself a cup of tea.Everything will be okay!
Good luck!

Tell her to keep her room clean or you will hire someone to do it and she will pay for it! Otherwise tell her to move out on her own and then she can live like a slob all she wants! Sounds like she is using you as her personal maid and tell her she needs to respect your home and rules. She needs to get off her butt and fix the situation that she has created!

A lesson in organization is in order. Pick out 7 outfits for her. Then burn the rest in the front yard. She'll get the message.

Like the Taco Bell commercial: Fold all her clothes and such and tell her "It's good to go." And point the way to the door.

If she is 24, perhaps it's time she move out and live like a slob somewhere else.
