I'm labouring under the presumption that you're already a sociology undergraduate.

You have to ask yourself why you undertook that course in the first place. Whichever aspect interested you the most, can you think of a career which is based around it?

The problem with sociology is that there'll be more graduates in this field than the job market can sustain. Have you thought about training in a parallel industry? For example, the legal profession? In one year full-time or two years part-time you could have completed the legal practice course or the bar vocational course and start working your way towards a financially rewarding career as a solicitor or barrister.

You could also be eligible to train as an officer in the Army if you have a good honours classification and high fitness and general health, if you're that way inclined.

The Civil Service are always on the lookout for the more literate of those seeking work.

Don't listen to the idiots who say you'll just end up in McDonalds or something. If you've had the persistance to work hard for three years, then undertake additional training, employers will be keen to hire you.

I'm coaching at a local college and working at Starbucks with my Sociology degree. The best thing about Sociology is that it gives you strong analytical skills so that you can move on to another degree. I'll soon be working towards a Master's in International Relations.

Do you have a bachelor's in Sociology? Perhaps you could go back to school and become a Ph.D in Sociology. My brother and sister-in-law are Ph.D's in Sociology. They teach Sociology in their college in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Or you could be a Advisor or a counselor too. The field of sociology is a wide one. Good sociologists are hard to find.

Good luck to you and I hope I was some what helpful!

State social worker . . . case worker. You can witness, first hand: recidivism, alcoholism, drug addicts . . . you can see our tax dollars at work funding food stamp programs that Meth-head moms and dads sponge off of only to sell their monthly quotas for money to buy more meth. You can see foster kids go from one home to the next because of their psychological problems and they have become anti-social (poor dears).

And you're asking this question because you think you actually WANT to get a degree in sociology? You've not talked to a guidance counselor about the great rewards that you can achieve with this type of degree??

Can you say, STUDENT LOAN DEBT?

You either are in the trenches of society with this type of degree, or you encumber yourself with $50,000-$100,000 in student loan debt to become a social studies teacher in High School, or a professor, if you got 10 years.

A degree in sociology is one of them "feel good" degrees. You really think you're going to be helping society, but in truth you see a bureaucratic waste in all forms of institutions: teaching and government.

Research, social work, teaching, marketing, etc. You can also apply sociology knowledge to a second degree such as business or law and it does enhance your knowledge in this area.
