Looking at a picture of a path going through a forest or a road meandering across a country scene-- perhaps one shown traveling out across the desert- what is feeling or the meaning of that for you. Do you, --- or could you think about the road or path as a metaphor for your life. What would your path look like. Where would it be going. I am writing my disertation on this idea and would like to hear what you think.

It would definitely depend on where the path is coming from. If it goes into a forest, desert, up a rocky mountain or to a lion's den, I would surely believe or think that the road ahead would be a difficult one and I would try to avoid that path. It would make me feel uneasy, but I am sure other people may feel up to a challenge and feel exhilarated. I am too careful and would rather take the smooth, open path.
A path that leads into a grassy field, or garden is much more inviting and less threatening. Perhaps a path to a sandy beach or a mountain lake, or an oasis in the middle of that desert, would be a sign of respite or "better days ahead".

My road would be depicted as one with many turns, twists, peaks and valleys...leading to the sky, embracing many different landscapes. A picture or painting of a road through multiple and varied landscape signifies the artist conception of their own road...or the road they wish they were on. It can also signify their preferences. Do they prefer rambling, open country roads, or a path through a cool dark forest? An open road signifies the openness of one's personality and spirit; while the other signifies mystery and depth, for example. It is an excellent study in human nature. Kudos to you for the topic.

A zig-zag path where you can't see the end, would symbolize surprises in my life, but a short, straight path where you can see the end would symbolize a bland or predictable life. My path would be zig-zaggy and have a few unexpected rocks that would trip me up a little. Hope that helps and good luck with your disertation

I love pictures of paths or roads. To me it speaks of adventure and excitement. It speaks of new direction, and the unknown. It is a source of mystery. A challenge. It gives me a sense of power - maybe self-determination. I love travel though I don't travel far. I love road trips whether on motorbike or in a car, alone or with friends/family. I love to 'go somewhere', experience something new and meet new people.

Depends on the surroundings. if its a pretty pic with a path winding through it, it gives a feeling of wanting to find out where it leads otherwise not appealing.

Sorry I see it as a compositional element of the picture designed to guide your eye to and along what the artist wants you to look at. I suppose you could romanticize it and make it an avatar for your life.

It has always affected me as a metaphor for the journey. Remaining as a journey, keeps us travelling. Seeing a destination halts our growth of progress.

It tells me there is always another road to take, if you are not happy being on the road you are on.
