The cost of living (outrageous tax rates) are highest in New York, California and Massachusetts.
I have a Kiplinger magazine which showed, in 2002, that the lowest cost of living was in South Carolina.
I think that there are good opportunities for employment in just about all of the 48 continental states.
A lot depends on your job interest and life interests. I live in Western Pennsylvania. Real estate taxes are high, but the cost of homes is so much lower than most other places.
Delaware is a tax-friendly state. It is conveniently located near some major cities. Take your pick. Isn't it wonderful living in the USA. You can go where you want and do what you want to do.

Texas is absolutely smoking right now. Fantastic economic boom in Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth areas.

Also, there's always west coast....California and or Oregon are always good on the job market.

Avoid the northeastern section of the US by and large. There are very little jobs in PA, MD, VA, NC, and so forth.

But TX, FL, GA, CA, OR, and AZ are hopping.

I grew up in PA and have since moved to Houston....and you should see this area, it's sick. Growing exponentially every single day.

Good luck and God bless....
