I've already answered a similar question!
1)Being, a captain u also have to fulfil certain responsibilities A captain is also an ambassador of the nation. His deeds & words can sometimes put the entire nation to shame. Dravid is a person who is perfect to represent the nation on a global arena. Ganguly had always had his share of criticism from media for being late for press conferences, early morning toss, the controversial ‘lords balcony incident’ …..!!
2)The captain must lead from the front & set examples to younger members in the team. Dravid can do just that, come up with significant contributions match after match! We really need a ‘playing captain’ & can’t afford the luxury of including an out of form player just due to the virtue of his captaincy! Such a captain can never inspire a team. Must admit one thing ,ganguly’s 144 against Aussies down under is one of the best innings by a captain…. and the results were evident in the series. Sadly he didn’t come up with too many of those under his belt during his tenure as a captain.
3) Captain has to be aggressive in the field and soft & sensitive outside, dravid’s just that! But despite everything youngsters in the team like bhajji, yuvraj, sehwag…liked ganguly’s leadership…. he’s ‘dada’ for them. He’s groomed these youngsters perfectly. Feels dravid seems to be much more a quiet kind of guy, shows little on his face…might not be the same type as most youngsters in the team-energetic & fun-loving. But it seems like he is putting a deliberate effort to have a kind of resonance! best of luck!
4)A technically sound player is comfortable in all types of surfaces & against all oppositions. Such a player can easily return to form when out of touch. Also captaincy consumes most of your time and thoughts & you have to find that extra time to polish your own game. Dravid is an extremely hardworking player & will find time out. it went against ganguly as u can see from his footwork. Footwork needs a clear head.
5)Playing capabilities-dravid is definitely a greater player than ganguly! He is one of the greatest technicians the game has ever produced & will be rated as one of the all time best batsman, by the time he ends his career. But ganguly is one of the best players of spin, especially left arm spin and he is one of the greatest players of the lofted shot. Just think of the ease with which he hits a spinner for six. But didn’t play too many of those shorts in the last 2 years. I’m not really a big ganguly fan, but I wish he had played longer, but the way he used to play 2 years earlier.
But at the end, what’s best for the Indian, that’s what has to be considered. Seems like things are working pretty well now & there is really no need for further discussions. what do you feel from my answer-dravid seems to have a slight edge over ganguly!!

Yes he is far better than him.
Ganguly's batting average had fallen to a great extent after he becoming the captain. The captain is the one who leads from front and guide the team through to victory. If the captain himself fails in every match, the team mates also get some psychological dis-advantage. So it very big task for captain to perform his best in the ground as well as out side. The name captain doesn't mean that one should brong victory itself only.
Rahul have the capacity to be bold when the team is in dangerous situation and lead from front. This is just shown in the recent test series in last test match against Windies. He also saved our country from many defeats in various occations. There is no change of average in Dravid's batting after becomming captain instead it had increased.
Considering the above views, I am saying that Rahul is a better captain than Ganguly.
I also like Ganguly but fact cannot be covered.

a captain is always as good as his team. ganguly groomed the team that dravid is leading right now. ganguly was naturally aggressive and a risk-taker. dravid is defensive but has sound cricketing skills and unbelievable levels of concentration. on top of that he is pivotal to the indian team. in a long time, he is the first captain who is technically sound. dravid hasn't surpassed ganguly yet but i won't be surprised if he ends his career as the best indian cricket captain ever.

no he is not because ganguly knew what step to take at what moment. ganguly was much more aggressive than dravid. he used to fill the team with aggreession which guided our team to the world cup finals. i am not saying that dravid is bad captain but ganguly was far better than him.

ganguly wuz better in terms of strength and decision making. Dravid requires more experience as a captain.

Rahul Dravid is f-a-r better than Sourav. He leads from the front. Actually India has long needed a gentleman captain.

Ganguly lead the team when they were in dumps due to match fixing and all in 2000. Kudos to him that India started winning outside India. He brought in youngesters and they swear by him. Rahul was his deputy and now he is carrying on the legacy, let's not compare. Both have their strength and weeknesses.

Wait and watch and then make a decision ...who is the better captain.......still he has lot to prove it......becz right moment...ganguly is the greatest caption of India ever......so atleast we must give the time(min 2 years) to prove it...........
