It depends on the breed of dog. In general, the small the dog, the longer it should live. For example, a German Shepard lives an average of 10-12yrs, but a poodle could live another 5yrs on top of that.

It also depends on the individual dog and the sort of life it lives. If the dog is well fed, active and maintains a steady, healthy weight then its chances of living a long and healthy life are relatively good. In addition to this, regular trips to the vet to check overall health are a necessity, as are things like worming, flea protection etc.

However, there are various conditions that can shorten the life of a dog and many of these are genetic and specific to certain breeds. For example, German Shepards are renowned for having problematic hips, due to years of selective breeding to get that trademark stance. If you buy from a licensed breeder, they should be able to supply you with the family history of any given dog and be able to tell you if there is any history of medical problems within that blood line.

And then of course there is just downright bad luck - some dogs get hit by cars, others develop arthritis, go blind or develop another problem all together.

Like Humans all age averages are different, and its hard to give averages these days.

However if your going on the average of about 90 years for humans, then I guess, dogs average would be about 12 or 13 , however like i said, you cant really tell , I had a dog that lived to be about 15.
It come downs to there family , and how well they are looked after

Depends on the dog. Usually pedigrees have major problems, so that can lower lifespan. Outdoor dogs usually live an average of 10 years, indoor dogs an average of 20-25.

Depends on the breed. The smaller the dog, the longer the life. The larger the dog, the shorter the life.

It depends. Smaller breeds tend to live longer, more in line with cats: 12-15 years. Large breed dogs generally don't live much longer than 10-12 years.

Of course, that's generalizing. One of my beloved puppies died of cancer at the age of 8.
