I think it's Michael Jackson. Don't forget that foreigners don't watch the NBA matches. We know Michael Jordan but unfortunately we don't watch American basketball.
In addition, Jackson's face is terrible, and terrible things are easy for the human brain to remember.

Michael Jackson - both girls and boys know who MJ is. But since Michael Jordan is an athlete not to many girls will know who he is especially in countries outside the US.
Plus MJ was in the news last year for the child molesting thing and Jordan has only been on tv commercials for hanes underwear.
