Because they've been raised that that's how it should be, and much of that comes from the church/religion. It is a special feeling to know another individual wants to be with you, out of all the other many others he might have chosen...just as it's a kewl feeling that a woman has chosen to be with one particular guy, out of all the others she might have chosen.

But there's no reason it HAS to be one-to-one always...I don't think humans were wired originally to be monogamous, but it's likely some would've been anyway just because there are advantages and conveniences to having just one partner versus many.

If monogamny doesn't work for you, then do what does...just be sure you're being straight up with the people you 'date'. They deserve to be able to decide if they want to be one of your partners, instead of THE one.

Everyone seems to be missing a huge obvious reason: Children. Monogamy = Security for a woman and her child(ren). In spite of contraceptive technology, pregnancy is a real risk for any woman involved in an intimate relationship, and it's a risk that is significantly more potentially damaging for women than for men.

With the divorce rate hovering around 50% and adultety rates in the high 80s, last I heard, monogamy may be a lot more useful in theory than in practice. But, biologically speaking, women are more likely to want monogamy than men because they have more to lose.

For a lot of reasons. Because they are mature and can handle monogamy, because they don't want to run the chance of contracting an STD or HIV. Because they want security.

becoz they believe in love and love will bring true meanings to their lives. Love is sacred, at least to me. If it is not monogamous, then it would be world of lust and meaningless, with little directions....
