Scotland has been part of the Union for 300 years, and it was the Scottish King who took over the English throne, so technically England is the occupied country. I'd say no to independence just to the sheer cost of it all. Think of all the little silly agencies that would need to be set up, like a Scottish DVLA, and what currency would we use? Yes Scottish banks issue their own bank notes, but they are linked to the pound sterling which would still be controlled by London, allowing Westminster and the Bank of England to control the Scottish economy.

On the other part of Scottish MPs voting on English laws, while I do agree it is unfair, we can't have a 2 teir system within Westminster. Scottish MPs need to have the same voting rights as English MPs. The only way round this would be to either abolish devolution, or to federalise the country, with Westminster creating an English parliament, which would have similar powers to the Scottish parliament, and Westminster keeping the reserve powers.

Being purely selfish, it would be in my interest to see Scotland break away. I would have more money due to not having to subsidise the poor Scottish economy.

However, despite our history, Braveheart, Culloden, Battles of Hampden Park and Wembley etc, we have more in common than we have differences. We have fought along each other in wars since 1605, under a united flag, with a common language. If the scots want to go their own way, I will respect their wishes. But I would not force them out.

I would be torn as my great grandfather was Irish my grandfather and father Scottish and my mother and my sisters English. So I would be happy with either. I do understand the argument but when you want Scotland to break away I hope you would not want English taxes to subsidise your laws.

i was born in Scotland but i would have to say no to Independence, Scotland just doesn't have enough Industry to support itself, The amount of land it has per person is massive, it wouldn't be economic to go self sufficient. Wales is different, it has massive exports and can live off its own income.

No, I wouldn't like to see it, However, what I think is wrong is Scottish MPs having a say in the Westminster Parliament when English MPs do not have a say in the Scottish Parliament
