Well, if you have lovely kids and grand kids what's the problem? Oh yeah, fat, frumpy... Hey, you know what you have to do to make the changes, it is not easy but don't go out and end your life over it. Start slowly, first stop the beer. You have to learn to walk before you run, set goals that aren't about running next years Boston marathon. Its about setting up some realistic goals, meeting them and setting the bar a bit higher next time. There is no quick fix that will work, it all takes time and patience. You have to want to make a change for anything to change!!!

You sound very like me - 51 years old - fat - difficult to diet, too tired to exercise, love food. Reasonable social life. Since I don't have kids, I can skip the rest. But I am not depressed any more - and I am actually starting to lose the weight.

My secret? Learning how I got the fat in the first place and how to keep from putting more on.

I learned that the #1 hormone - because it can affect the production of all the other hormones - is insulin. Ask your doctor for a fasting insulin blood test . Ask for a copy of your results. 10 or higher is abnormal for an adult.

Also ask for a saliva test. This test will tell you if any of your feminine hormones are not at the best levels. That could have an effect on your depression, too. I do not like doctors who prescribe hormones without testing first.

Your symptoms (all of them) could be related to low blood sugar. You may want to check out www.hufa.org, and click on the symptoms link to check yourself out.

You need inspiration and motivation, as soon as you start looking after yourself your energy levels will rocket and everything will seem a LOT easier.
You can start without even moving from your chair! search for a local weightloss group and some exercises classes/a sport that you might be interested in. Look for inspirational stories and ideas for food and exercise.

Don't let friends drag you down - i'm afraid some will try and talk you into drinking, away from your new good habits etc... surround yourself by people who will motivate you. You've got lots of good reasons to do it as you have already figured out. Good luck!

Stop drinking beer it will swell you up like a whale. Try Jack and water. Try going for 30 minute walks everyday. After a while of doing it try to walk farther in the 30 minute span. Do it even if you are to tired because if you do not you will always be too tired. It will surprise you good you will feel once you start exercising. You have to make yourself do it. Also feeling the way you do is perfectly normal.

Not everyone can be slim . Just because you are overweight it does not mean you cannot be beautiful. Do one thing at a time. Try a new hairstyle, something easy to take care of and fun., young looking. Then get one new outfit and let an honest friend go with you . Overweight people can dress for their size . Nothing to tight but also nothing to baggy, actually that makes you look bigger. Be proud of who you are. Before you can make the outside appearance look better you have to start with the inside. Its a matter of mind over matter. Good Luck

Depression is insidious. Begin by understanding that you don't just get over it and it's not your fault. When you are clinically depressed, if that is the case, you can't just fix it and you don't have the wherewithal to diet or exercise or anything. Please talk to your doctor and find a counselor. Let your lovely kids know you're feeling this way. You're not alone; I've been where you are and there is light!

You may want to consider an anti-depressant. Talk with a health care provider. Some of them have different side effects which may help with your mood and apatite in a good way.
In the mean time, if you are struggling with your weight, you can make simple changes to your life style, diet & wardrobe.

Start hanging out with fat, frumpy, 50, depressed males. You'll either get disgusted with them which will motivate you to get hold of yourself, or you'll like them and you can then encourage each other to change.

Maybe try to cut some of the carbs out, (white sugar and white flour) switch to light beer as it may slow the growing process of increased clothing sizes...

Or just break all your mirrors and continue to have fun, sounds like youre enjoying life Keep it up!!!!
