I reject your premise. The world is not increasingly against Arabs and Muslims. Just look at the lack of action the UN takes with regard to the deliberate slaughter of civilians by Muslims in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.

Why are many Americans, Britons and Australians against Arabs and Muslims? Just look at the deliberate slaughter of civilians by Muslims in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.

Why don’t we try to understand them? I think we understand them (at least those that support the slaughter of civilians) all too well. Until the moderate Muslims take to the streets every day to denounce the radical Muslims, we think that you support them and we lump the moderates (if there are any) in with the radicals.

Some good answers here, and some horrifying ones.

The theme that I like best is the simple fact that Muslims of the world need to more loudly reject the fundamentalists that have hijacked a religion and turned it into one that appears to the rest of the world to be violent.

The Mohammad cartoon protests didn't help matters much. The community as a whole needs to learn to take offenses in stride. Jesus is frequently portrayed in a less than flattering light, but you don't see Christians rioting in the streets over it. Sure, they get a little pissy, but people don't die as a result.

I live not far from the Islamic Society of North America and I have met the Imam. He's a wonderful human being, and generally, Muslims in the US remain a well-assimilated, peaceful group of people.

Extremists will always taint the image of a group of people. It is the responsibility of the majority to speak up for peaceful values and denounce violence. When that is done, the world community will view Muslims under a different light.

Day after day media reports on the horrors of Muslim extremists. It is all that we see as an example of their religion. It is no less different than the media's portrayal of the political parties in the US and no less different then the world's media against America.

Arabs and Muslims need a marketing campaign...they need to become active in the community to demonstrate the good that they do. If actions speak louder than words and a picture is worth 1000 words, then the good that they do must equal the media coverage that is anti Arab.

Setting up charities to help the homeless, groups to help feed the poor, establishing battered women's shelters etc...

We do understand them which is precisely why we are against them.

Why must we hear this constant stream of drivel about "not understanding" Muslims and Arabs. Its like asking why are we so against Nazis without trying to understand them.

Its not a lack of understanding that is the problem. It is the abhorrent beliefs, loathsome attitudes and barbaric behavior of the Muslims that is the problem. We understand these things all too well.

This is an easy one. Because the Muslims that are getting all the attention are the ones brutally murdering innocent people all over the world. Since we aren't seeing a whole lot of outrage to this behavior from so called peaceful Muslims, we are assuming you accept the behavior. So you can understand our feelings here can't you?

Because regardless of how many decent Muslims there are, and we know there are many out there, your people will always be tainted by the radicals whom use your religion and your culture to justify murder and some of the most barbaric acts ever witnessed on this earth. If the Arab and Muslim peoples want the world to start supporting them, they need to start cleaning up their own messes and take care of the radical Muslim population internally. As long as these radicals continue to be allowed to integrate into daily Muslim and Arab life you will all be lumped together into one category, fairly or not.

Your question makes a lot of sense. I live in Montreal, Canada and I work with a lot of Arabs and Muslims, they are well mannered people and very bright. 911 in America was a shocker, and that is understandable but a lot of people including my fellow citizens hate americans because they're arrogant. The thing is most people tend to take a behaviour and generalize it. Example : French people are snobs, Haitians brought aids in the world, Canadians are hill-bellies, Americans are arrogant, Germans drink too much, all Italian men are machos, Arabs like to blow up, Indians stink, Asians are smarter than the rest of humanity, Jews are cheap, Black men like to rape white women, all women are bitches they just don't know it yet, all white people are racist, black people are stupid and so on and so forth...In fact humans like to be scared of strangers. If we would learn from each other maybe we would find that we are all capable of being loved ! PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL...

If you are a peaceful Muslim and feeling the hostility around you, I'm sorry. But non-Muslims see all the violence being caused by fundamentalist extremist terrorists in the name of Islam AND they see the peaceful Muslims not speaking out against these horriible actions. What are they to think? That ALL Muslims either actively or passively support the violence. If you want that to change, YOU need to help mobilize the peaceful Muslim community to speak out against terrorist violence.

Not everyone puts whole groups of people in a bag and puts one label on all of them. Most people understand the concept of individual nuts within a group of people acting violently and without regard. That's like saying all Caucasians are bad people because of Timothy McVeigh and what he did in Oklahoma.

Recent years' violence attacked on civilian population accelerated hatred and mistrust to the Muslims. Just a simple observation.
