Its dehydrates really quickly and then dies , if it does'nt get any water again....

Both, first the salt has a chemical reaction with the snail or slug which causes the "sizzle" then it dies.

I think with it being a slimy and cool animal, the salt dries it up and the pores close and it just withers and dies. I come from Bermuda where we have lots of snails especially after rain. I know it's cruel, but we just used to crush them. Try the salt thing and see what you find. If not just look it up online...lol. Take care.

not sure but if you are having trouble with snails i suggest you go to the local and buy a bait
