It depends on how far north you are, and the date. Close to December 21 (the solstice) the night is very long and the sun may not rise until 7:30 or later. If you were in Alaska or northern Canada, you would not see the sun rise at all at that time of year.

In the winter the days are shorter so the sun rises earlier and sets earlier, so I would say....5:30-6:00

Usually in the morning...Just kidding. Varies based on location in US (esp how far north/south) and date. But, for NY in winter, sunrise is usually 7:30-8:30 and sets 4:30-5:30pm
