I've alwasy found that the best mixture is with a liquid medium instead of powdered sugar. One product that contains Boric Acid (Borax) is RAID ANT KILLER it is sold in a tiny red bottle and can be found at any hardware store. I have found through personal experience that it works best when mixed with fruit juice, honey, or molasses. Liquid mediums are easier for the ants to collect. Using a 1for1 mix should do the trick nicely! Another trick of the trade is oranges. Oranges wihtout the peel removed should be placed into a blender, roughly 6 unpeeled oranges is fine. Blend it up really good, mix with water to create a liquid. Strain out all the large chunks and use the liquid that you collect to pour right onto the ant mound. Oils in the peel of the orange are supposedly quite toxic to ants. You can also spread the chunks from the blender over the area for that little added punch. Pouring boiling water over the colony wont destroy the colony, it will only cripple it for a short time. There are also many plants that can be planted to deter ants from setting up shop in your yard, another person gave you a pretty good list, so I wont write it again.

I hope that helps, I know it worked for me, and I think it'll do the same for you! Good Luck!

For anthills near the house pour boiling water into the nest. 1/4 sugar 3/4 borax works fine.

Use less chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the lawn and garden as they cause an imbalance in the biological makeup of the soil and stressed soil and plants attract ants.Ants seem to dislike spearmint, tansy, sweet fern and pennyroyal. Plant these near the house to keep ants away.

To repel ants entering the house to an eight ounce bottle of mild liquid soap add one ounce each of citronella, pennyroyal, peppermint, cinnamon, rose and tea oil. Mix together and add three tablespoons to two cups of water. Use one-half tablespoon to two cups of water.

If I had ant hills that huge, I would get some ORTHO Ultra (its diazanon). (it makes 60 gallons because its concentrated). Mix up a few gallons of this and pour it down the hills... It will kill just about anything and everything that there is! (even termites!!).

I wish you well..

Move away from there! LOL! Actually, my sister in law tried her little recipe like that with sugar and it sucked. It drew ever ant in the state into our kitchen. Just use the boric acid or ant killer, leave out the sweet stuff.

Roughly 50/50 will do just fine. You obviously have a huge colony in your yard. I would recomend treating your house before attacking the colony. It's the first place they'll run to when they figure out that they are in danger.
