They will see each other as viruses.

I recommend the following FREE software.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Hi there! I get this question a lot from people, and I always tell them the same thing. It is a good idea to have only one antivirus program running on your PC (or Mac), but it is not a necessity to uninstall one when installing the other.

Actually, sometimes it's actually better to have more than one. Each different antivirus carries with a varied definition file, which means that something McAfee misses could get picked up by AVG.

When it comes to PC security, I always say that the more of it you have, the better off you are. It's really just a matter of whether you want to have more than one or not.

Having more than one is a good idea, however. I, personally, have three running on my PC at this time.

It is NOT necessary to uninstall any other AV programs. You can have as many programs on your computer as you want.

HOWEVER, do not have more than one program running live (real time) scans at a time. If two AV programs are running live scans at the same time, they will see each other as a threat, try to eliminate each other, and your computer will go into an endless loop until it crashes.

I have AV programs from Norton, McAfee, eTrust and AVG on my computer. Since no AV program is 100% effective, I will run one at a time. Usually, my computer is clean. But sometimes one program will find something the others miss.

Same thing with antispyware programs. You can have as many as you want on your computer but it's recommended you only run one at a time.

I had avg free and it messed up , because I was getting some emails stating that I had to pay. Then it did not work as well. I got norton now 2006 and its awesome. My pc works so great now and it even blocks and tells you the ip thats trying to hack into your pc. Love norton here and won't use any other.
ps norton 2006 will also get rid of all the bugs you have on your pc on the install. :)

I would recommend uninstalling any anti-virus program before installing a new one as the job of an anti-virus program is to stop any other programs (in theory) from making any destructive changes to your computer or your anti-virus program.... and the new program will be changing and taking control of various items on your computer (which may inclued changing some programming and settings for your present anti-virus).

For example, your email is being scanned by your anti-virus as it is being downloaded and if you have 2 programs trying to do the same job, they will only interfere with each other and can go as far as freezing your computer completely.

So, for the effort of uninstalling one and reinstalling the new one, it could save you a lot of headaches.

A equipment reboot isn't mandatory, yet a equipment restoration is. in reality it places your pc lower back to a date even as the virus changed into not on your pc. seem it up on google to a thanks to do it. in case you comprehend once you purchased the virus (interior of like all week) then you definately can get rid of it and performance no issues. yet please be extra careful next time, because from time to time those issues won't be able to be solved by using equipment restoration.
