Edward VII became king when Victoria died. He ascended the throne at the age of 60 as Victoria was 82 when she died. Edward was affectionately known as 'Bertie' by the family who were all Germans of the Saxe-Coburg Gotha line. Edward was always disappointed that his mother lived so long as he wanted to be king at a younger age and only reigned until 1910 when he died.
