buy a maltese puppy. they have hair so the mess of shedding will never be a problem...they are extremely loving and by far the sweetest and gentlest of all dogs. they love to run and play and will give you and your family years of enjoyment. easy to house break...and after they do begin to go outside the poop is no larger than a tootsie roll. easy clean up in the yard. maintain the dogs coat by having a groomer give it a "puppie cut"....unless you want to comb it and fight the knots in the dog's coat. i have had shepards and labs all my life and while i love all animals this dog has given us the greatest joy....so much so that we bought another when the first was a year old. search maltese dogs on google and you will find some very interesting facts about these dogs...they were the dogs of royalty. good luck

You could try fish or a small dog & I think hermit crabs are pretty popular aswell.
Otherwise go to the local pet shop and have a look around, you might get some ideas.

how about an indoor outdoor cat??

there's not litter box!!!
ferrets are a great pet, but they're expensive in the begining...and well worth it...
don't get parakeets, they're loud...
fish are boring...

and snakes...ball pythons, boa's...they're hard sometimes, ball pythons are known for their choice to not eat...and they both get pretty big...lol
but i had a ball python, and he stopped eating...i had to force feed him, and it wasn't pretty, but eventually, i sold him for $20, because i didn't want to be there when he died...

hampsters are messy, and they only live about 3 years...by then, she'll be tired of them...lol
