Yes.

They don't call it the oldest profession for nothing...

Prostitution, right or wrong, has gone on forever, and it will continue on. This is a key point, and once you admit that point you need to consider how it can be managed.

Legalizing prostitution and registering sex workers appears to be the only way to regulate this industry. With legalizing the industry comes a wealth of spin-off benefits though there may be some drawbacks too. Perhaps the biggest plus is that with registration of sex-workers comes the ability to mandate regular health check-ups. With the spread of deadly STDs (Aids Hepatitus etc) and the huge cost on societies all over the world, this really is a problem we can no longer ignore, and unregulated prostitution certainly plays a role in this spread. Other benefits include increased taxes, removing a possible operational area of organized crime, and better rights for these women.

On the minus side, some people will say that there would be an erosion of morals... but since prostitution has certainly been around for millenia already, one wonders if that is really valid.

Certainly, as a part of any legislation to do with legalizing prostitution, I would like to see much more serious penalties for infringements... and not just aimed at the prostitutes as has been the case. Pimps / Madams / Clients etc of unregistered prostitutes should also face harsh penalties along with the women. This would help ensure that the laws are actually heeded.

An illegal, unregulated sex industry IS a problem. And just sticking our heads in the sand won't make it go away. Let's start to fix the problem now.

Even if it was legalised there would still be a criminal problem, as the source of money for organised gangs often comes from this. It would be easier for these gangs to make money and operate, and th Government can only control so much.
There is a moral argument. Many girls are forced into prostitution at a young age, then are often raped, beaten or even killed if they did not do as their 'customer' wants. My own view is that sex is a highly personal and intimate process, and prostitution as an act destroys this, cheapening it to a commodity, alongside destroying marriages and generally people's lives. T
Also the toll it would take in terms of the health service is too high. The risk of sexually transmitted infection and even AIDS is incredibly high, and the cost of then treating these illnesses would be a greater burden on the health service than it can take.

I don't see why not. I don't see how it's my business if a woman wants to sleep with any man she chooses and he wants to pay for it. At least if it were legalized it could be regulated in terms of the health of the prostitutes and their treatment. This is how it is done in some places in Nevada.

yes, because the women are going do it anyway, legal or not, so may as well make it legal which will make it safer.

people what say it shouldnt be legal are the ones what often do it themseves, policemen, judges, m.p's even vicars have been caught with prostitutes.

Yes. It would make perfect sense to do so. Its a far more honest profession that many we have today. I dont see why people have hang ups about this anyway. If they do, I am sure it stems from their own sexual hang ups.
