it most definitely is crap - if you are thirsty that also indicates that you may be over heated - the best way to quench your thirst is cold drinks and that also cools down your organs
research in the Israeli army after many soldiers were having dehydration problems were told to drink cold and slightly sweeten drinks

I would say that is crap. I always find that hot drinks aren't thrst-quenching at all. The best thing, and only thing known for sure to actually quench thirst for everyone, is water.

I think tea can help quench thirst on a really hot day. I think it has to be some form of water though. Hot milky drinks just make you more thirsty and anything sweet is going to hot or cold.

there is some truth in it. DON'T drink tea/ coffee as they are directics, as is alcohol. You could try a hot orange squash - it'll make you hot while you drink and a minute or two after, but overall its meant to cool you down more on a hot day, but the pain of going through it all isn't worth it in my own opinion.
sipping drinks will also quench your thirst better.

I totally disagree with a hot drink quenching thirst. It takes AGES to drink. If you are dehydrated then water is the best thing but sometimes that doesn't quench your thirst so some pop, milk, cordial or juice.

Not all hot drinks will quench your thirst. For instance, coffee is a diuretic (causes you to urinate) and so will not quench your thirst. As mentioned in an earlier reply tea is a better thirst quencher but I also think that tea is slightly diuretic too

I was always told to drink water to quench my thirst!
Hot tea is supposed to be good for drinking on a very hot day.
If you are really hot and dehydrated, you can die if you gulp down lots of cold water in a hurry.
In Turkey they sell hot tea by the roadside, and man it is hot in Turkey!

Ice cold water slows digestion and absorption. So it's better to drink warm water. Whether this quenches your thirst, I'm not sure.

It's not crap actually. Haven'y you noticed that you can drink lots of cold drinks, but you are still thirsty?
Tea is supposed to be a good hot drink - coffee is too much of a diuretic. You could also drink hot lemon squash - therefore you are still getting lots of water as well.

Just depends on what you drink. Where coffee doesn't do much to satisfy thirst, hot tea does (or at least for me it does)
