Did it twice and yes it is time consuming and expensive, BUT whata ride. I used summit racing for almost everything. Got the 350's and turbo 350 trans from junk yard, rebuilt both. Lots of time went into cutting the firewall and moving back a little about half way down (in about 2 - 3 inches) the area the trans will go can be beat with a good hammer but we cut and replaced with new metal (didn't round it just squared it and made it part of an center console.) you will need to modify the trans mount a bit but not so much. You might want to change the rear gears also. and plan on using some matting on the firewall and floorboard to keep from melting in the cab. A lot of heat comes off theses babies. Also use a dual electric fan on the radiator.

Alittle bit of work. It aint exactly easy but anyone can do it. I cant remember but either Jegs or Summitracing has a V8 conversion kit. Includes motor mounts and headers. Other crap too. If im thinking right I believe you can use the 4.3 liter V6 motor mounts for the 350.

Yup, my buddy did that to an Extreme S-10 and he used the v-6 motor mounts. It is kinda expensive though.
