I am using win98se and it is really imprtant to me to be able to record a friend. (we are writing an article together about her experiences with motor neurone disease and we are only able to talk over the phone.) ps I have her permission to record her.

It could be:

The software is a trial version and the recording time is limited

The software has the ability to define a recording time which you can set to infinite

The software could be set to stop if there's a long pause in the dialogue

No space left on the drive the recordings are saved

Wav files are usually big. Not converting them to mp3 format on the fly may cause disk space and file management issues on older systems. But it's usually a problem with files bigger then 2 gb.

what software do u use to record the files ?

If it's the standard voice recorder of windows you just have to change the recording length limit from settings.

Good luck

somewhere in the software you are useing---there should be a spot called ----SETTINGS or PREFERENCES----look through there to find the recording length setting,,,that is if you are useing a seperate software--- if your using windows to record get to kliking-----they only allow you 1 minute max through windows recorder
