Here's an easy way to figure it out. I'm sure you've tried using a calculator to figure out what 9264 divided by 42 is, but you probably got 220.57... To figure out the remainder, take the whole portion of that answer: in this case 220.
Multiply that answer (220) by what you divided in the first problem (42) and you get 9240. Take 9264, subtract 9240 and you get 24

For scientific notation, you always have a number in the format of X.XXX...*10^Y
An easy way to figure out the exponent is to do the following.
Write the original number and the scientific format one above the other
4.580.0
4.580
Then count the number of hops the decimal place makes, in this case, 3 to the left. If it hops to the left the exponent is positive, if it is to the right, it's negative. if it doesn't hop at all, the exponent is zero.

The KEY to handling this type of problem is to find out what number you can multiply 42 by to get as close to 9264 as possible. That would be 220.

Multiplying 220 by 42 gives you 9240. Subtracting this from 9264 gives you 24. Since there's nothing you can multiply 42 by to get 24, you have 24 leftover pieces remaining.

So your final answer would be 220R24, which means 220 wholes and 24 extra pieces.
