the role of the news media..is to gather information... and present it..to the public with accuracy...and without prejudice. both sides of the story should be told at all times if possible. and the reporters individual opinion in a news presentation should not be evident. this does not happen all the time..these days and this is sad. however i think during war... there are things that should not be released.things that would unveil.. secrets to the enemy..and /or would put key people in danger or jeopardy. war plans.. presidential visits... and even how we handle interrogation..even though it should be monitored... some delicate issues should not be placed before public. war is totally different situation,.to be covered. we have to do what we have to do. that does not include rape..etc..which is not a neccesary component.. but some force is. we cant send soldiers into danger and tie their hands completely. morals still stand. but unfortunately i understand when soldiers are scared.. tense..stressed and have watched buddies die.. they may react out of the norm. that must be considered by media and everyone else. we should remember not believe everything we hear however..and a slant is easily done on any story.so bear that in mind. finally.. unfortunately the media.. has a major affect on us..we form our opinions about people..places and things according to the media.. which includes..movies..and television stories.

If you live in a small community that is cut off from the rest of the world and self-sustaining - doesn't need to import or export goods or service - then you might not need to know what is going on in other parts of the world.
Otherwise, whatever happens anywhere else on this planet will effect you sooner or later - probably sooner.
Unless you have your own network of people telling you what is going on, and interpreting those facts so that you can fit them into your world view and sense of the future, you'll need to depend on the world media as it stands.
Is it perfect? NO Is it biased? YES Might something better come along? Maybe
At this point there are very few media giants around the world deciding what we will learn about and what spin to put on it all.
Maybe with more internet capability, we might, in the future, have friends all over the world whom we can ask - "Hey, what's going on where you live?" Until then, media it is.

Media a world of fantasy sensationalism and stretched truths. most of the young people I know see media as a bunch of wannabe actors they really are not interested what media has to say because for the most part it is all gloom and doom, Communication in the future I believe will die out young people are not interested in war religion or culture or what is going on across the big pond, unfortunately this will take some time because most young people are brain washed by media to day, the daily garbage that is throw en at them is a daily formula that they try to deal with. When I watch the news and they have young people on that are raised in the big cities and interviewed my only thought that comes to mind is ma be we should have euthanasia God help our future.

First we should never allow ourselves to BE influenced.Too many people take what they hear in the media and make it their view as opposed to THINKING ON THEIR OWN!
People need to start standing up for what they believe and stop being so politically correct.
More to the point the media is making robots out of many of you by knowing that you CAN be influenced and that you will pass on that view to others who are also influenced by what others say...it never ends.
Take what the media says then investigate it on your own THEN decide how you really feel about the issue.
As to what our children and us are forced to see on tv,you can do things to change that other than complain on a website, call the FCC,stop watching it or buying the sponsors products or block the channel from your children.

The media should report the news without all the biased garbage they spew out now. They want, and are many times successful in guiding our populations thoughts and views on world events. The sad part is, many look to them for indications of how they should think. It saves them a lot of time so they can figure out how to sell us things we don't need and make enough money to buy the new cars the media spews to us that we must have in order to be successful in our stupid little jobs. Anything the media tells us we should have or need should be scrutinized with great thought.

Censorship of the activites of children is the parents responsiblity. Not that of the media. Teach your kids how to think for themselves. If we let our children watch anything that shows up on the tube and have unfettered access to the internet we can only blame ourselves for the outcome. Parenting and education are the key. The real trick is avoiding the influence of liberal public school systems!

If you're a God fearing Christian, then theres way too much violence on tv, radio and the internet.
If you're a hedonistic sadist self fullfilling heathen? You want more evil to observe and enjoy.
If you want the evil, you'll find it. If you want the good, you'll find it.
Censorship is in general, bad. Because by limiting the flow of information you keep people from growing and experimenting

The media has as much influence as you allow it. If you do not check with multiple sources, shame on you.
