Hello Oscar!
Well, I think people created god and not that god created people and the Universe! Can you imagine so many thousands of gods making people and all these creatures to look alike?
Also, since you placed the Question in Physics, I want to inform you something more: Our Universe is LIVING! And as it has specific rules, laws, life, it seems to us like there is someone guarding it, like there is something greater than it!
When people do not know the answer, they search for it!
When the scientists are not positioned well in the society, the rulers order the scientists to silence and they discover some god to answer the questions. Further, they invent religions, for which the ruler is sent by god to rule and thus they prolong and secure their rein!

If a god is omnipotent, then there's very little that can challenge him. For us humans, it's our failings (emotions etc) that provide us with the motivation to keep going.

We suffer from hunger so we must strive to eat, we are not impervious to the elements so we must find shelter etc etc.

But God is a God, and he doesn't have many failings. It's all part of being a God.
So what motivates a god?

The only conceivable challenge to a god, is that of destroying himself.

But this presents a problem. If God knows the future, he will already know that if he chooses to end his existence, whether he knows he will succeed in it, then there's no challenge there either.

If god were to destroy himself tho, would his omnipotence include knowing what happens after losing his omnipotnce or would his knowledge of the future end at this point?

A god who knew the answer to this question would know everything. But one who didn't, who had that nagging doubt in the back of his mind, may be tempted to blow himself up to give it a try.

Thus, the theory is that, the big bang was God blowing himself up to test the theory, and we are all parts of Gods conciousness in the process of rebuilding him.

Since we exist, then we must assume god was motivated to do something. And i think everything was created to answer a quesion god had.

Totally ripped off from God's Debris, but it's a great theory and it's free which is nice. Get it and read it.

The reason God created us and the universe is that it is an aspect of God's nature. It may seem like that doesn't answer very much, but if we are imperfect beings created in his image, our nature is also creative. This small detail can have some important meaning when discussing the meaning of life and morality.

I don't even think God created us, I think we evolved and the reason for our evolution is survival.

We are a moment in his thoughts. His thoughts need to be made up of something - and one of the billion, zillion, million, trillion thoughts he has is simply this universe and us.

God created us so that we could prove that he doesn't exist. It's quite simple really.
