I'm black and I don't believe there should be either a black history or a white history month. I believe "true" history should be taught on a regular basis in schools. Integrate all of America's history and teach our children the truth no matter how brutal. Stop feeding us crap like the Washington cherry tree I cannot tell a lie story and serve up some cold hard facts. Tell us about Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seal, the Chicago 8. Wake up America.

I don't consider myself to be racist but this answer will reek of racism. Politcial correctness and the "need" to right the wrongs of the past have spawned a good many things for blacks that don't exist for whites. Martin Luther King day comes to mind. Yes, he was a great man but so were many whites. I was alive and read the accounts of MLK's assassination first hand. I heard his "I've got a dream speech" first hand. Despite this I firmly don't believe he deserved a national holiday. There is no holiday named for a specific white person that I know of. The NAACP is a great orginization I believe but it practices it's own form of racism. Try to establish a NAAWP and the outrage coming from the black community would be deafening. Racism is a disease that will probably never be eradicated but it is practiced on both sides.

perhaps the black history has a darker side to it which the people need to know and set right. whereas the white history is all plain white. but for people to understand history anyway, everything has to be in black and white!

its due to the fact that the gov. needed a way to appeal to the black community. sorry but true, and also its 'cus they are consider a "minority". I am not racist in the least bit, and I don't have a problem with the "holiday"
but if the white community trys to do the same it 'cus we are racist, I feel there is too much reverse racism, If you are a white male over 18 you are the most alienated, people of "color" get grants, and loans, and hired only based on "quotas" women get the same deal.

The accomplishments of blacks have been suppressed for many years, pretty much regulated to Frederick Douglas and Geroge Washington Carver.
