I have been wondering that. I am a 25 year old mum of 2, I am wearing a "hoody" right now. I am wearing it because I was cold. If I was out and I did not have a hat, I would put the hood on my head. Where is the problem? It's all this crap about hiding faces. Well, not meaning to be racist but if hoodies are to be banned, we should not allow Muslim women to wear their head coverings. It's all very well using religion as an excuse but if I see someone in a "hoody" I can see their face, I can see who they are. I hope people see my point and realise I am not being disrespectful or anything.
Just because someone is wearing a hoody doesn't mean they are out to commit a crime. I am sure there are a lot of young criminals who do it to show off and actually want everyone to see who they are so they wouldn't wear a hoody anyway.

Hoodies are worn by people who are supposedly committing criminal activity's(chavs) but the media as usual make a bigger deal of it than it is. I own a few hoodies but I've not committed any offenses lately. It's nonsense blown out of proportion yet again. But i do know a lad who was stopped by the police once and asked to remove his hoodie we've all gone mad it's a joke

I accept its a fashion and the vast majority of people who wear these are not out to cause trouble, but you can't get away from the impression they give. They can be used to hide the face and therefore are bound to arouse suspicion of the wearer's intentions. Couple this with the fact that some people do use them to conceal their identity when committing crime then the question is justified. Compare them to the use of the Hijab - there is no problem with Muslim women committing such crimes so people don't become suspicious of them.

Because if you obstruct your face with a hood then you will be harder to recognise. Traditionally in the UK you would only do this if:
1. The weather was freezing cold with icy winds.
2. You were intending to commit a crime, like mugging, knife-attack, robbery, rape.
Would you rather be walking by yourself down the street at dusk and encounter a individual/gang loitering without hoods or with hoods?
I think the anxiety is made worse. If your gang is truly law-abiding, then why wear unnecessary hoods?

I would think that around 99.9999% of the global population do not own hoodies - or would want to. I can understand wearing one when the weather is foul - but as a fashion statement they are akin to wearing a baseball cap back-to-front.

To all people who answered. did you realise that "shaking hands" was a result of showing people that you did not have a weapon, and that is why people reject "Hoodies" Shaking hands was an open gesture where as "Hoodies" try to conceal themselves rather than be "Open-handed"with people. I wear hooded tops bit ONLY when the weather dictates !! and not a hot summers dry when it's dry!!

My son wears a hoodie when it's cold and a neck warmer round his face. It's only to keep him warm in the winter. He never threatens anyone. He's on his bike a lot so in the cold weather they keep him warm. You get a lot of idiots wearing them in the warm weather. They are just thick. My son stopped wearing his in the spring and summer because he didn't need it. As for polititions, they just need something to complain about. As for newspapers, they just use a story to sell papers. Of the stories you read in the papers, probably 5% is truthful.

It's a fad and a reminder of how impressionable young minds are. Everyone has one so every has to have one. It's a good sign for the politicians actually, because it means peoples' minds are soft and the lies that they put in campaign commercials will work.

It's not the hoodie that's the problem it's the small minority who wear them to conceal their identity when they go out and commit crime that are the problem !
