Why do people who crusade for preservation of the earth destroy their own bodies?

Okay, obviously I'm generalizing here, but it seems to me that the people who are the most concerned with preservation of the earth- i.e. recycling, global warming, pollution, etc... these people (here comes the sweeping generalization) often seem to be heavy partiers. Heavy drinkers, pot smokers, drug users, etc.
NOTE: I'm not anti-drug. I've used plenty of drugs in my lifetime. Whatever your thoughts about drugs/drug use though, you can't deny that prolonged drinking/drug use deteriorates your body.

Because no one is perfect. Besides, if you really want to get down to the nitty-gritty, we begin to deteriorate at the moment of conception. Most of the people that I have encountered are conscious of the effects that their choices have on their own physiology and that of others, and commit themselves to maintaining their bodies to the best of their abilities. Unlike you, I'm anti-drug because that is the worst way to abuse the body, mind, and spirit.

thats certainly different from the mainstream perception that most environmentalists and animal rights activists are tree hugging vegans and health nuts.Where do u draw ur broad generalizations from?and if so then why r u judging?

Perhaps they are such perfectionists in there idealism that eventually they try to escape their pain with drugs.What they really need is to get themselves to church and get a personal relationship with the Creator.

they want to preserve the earth for others, not for themselves. so selfless of them!
