*And sorry, gotta knock that token "Hendrix" answer!! Enlighten yourself with some of the work of the above musicians. (Not trying to be sarcastic).

*7/9 Fair enough, but I personally (my preference) still don't agree with the Hendrix one. He seems more "in style" to me, and that is why I said I consider that a token answer. I do agree with the Randy Rhodes and Eddie Van Halen answers, however. I think this question is really hard because you would have to be able to categorize according to influence, technical skill, different musical genres... and then there is personal opinion! Obviously Hendrix is at the top of a lot of people's lists, just not mine.

What does the asker think??

I'm more than just a little disappointed that Paul Gilbert's name didn't appear even once on this list. Everyone should listen to more music... A LOT more music. Personally I think it'd be a crazy battle between Yngwie, Freidman and Gilbert... but Gilbert would totally win with his mouth-sweeping. You can't beat mouth-sweeping, don't even DREAM of trying.. unless you can do it with another body part or something... AND he sings well in english and he speaks/sing in Japanese!!! Gilbert is the best, he should count for at least 2 guitarists... maybe 3!
