Macs seem far more stable and more memory efficient.

Depends on your purpose. People love the Mac operating system because it's truly idiot proof. It's very graphical (Windows look and feel was standard from day 1 it came into being.), and adding and removing hardware is the simplest.
Most people choose a Mac over a PC when it comes to graphics. Why? Because the Mac is a bit clearer and measurements are more accurate. For example, if you want to create an ad that 2 1/8 inches by 4 1/2 inches, the ruler on the Mac is completely accurate. You could take a ruler and it will match up exactly. A PC would be "close enough," but not exact, so many desktop publishing is done moreso on Macs for this reason.
A Mac is also capable of running both Mac and Windows, although running Windows is much slower than on a PC. I have this on my older Mac, but it can also be done on the newer machines. It's 3rd party software but does work.
Doing this allows you to run both Mac and PC software, with some exceptions, but many programs do run just fine. For example, I run Microsoft Office on my Mac, but it's the Windows version. As far as hardware goes, it only uses the Mac hardware.
KEY is this. If you want a machine that's very easy to use and operate, then you might want to lean towards a Mac. But you really can't go wrong either way because they're becomming more and more compatible.

Windows/PCs: You pay less (in general), but you do get a lot less. Windows is nowhere near as well-designed as Mac OS X, and the software that comes pre-loaded on PCs is generally worthless. However, if you are a gamer, it is the only real option because there are so few games that run on Mac OS.
Macs: You pay more, but you get a lot more. The OS is both extremely easy to use and very powerful. The hardware is in general quite good (a bottom-dollar PC will be a *lot* worse than a bottom-dollar Mac), and new systems come pre-loaded with software (such as the iLife suite) that's actually pretty good.
There is a Mac version of Microsoft office, which is fully compatible with the Windows version, if that is an issue for you. (A trial version comes pre-installed on new macs.)
The big advantage of today's Intel-based Macs is that, if needed, they can run Windows. Windows can either be installed as a second OS (via Boot Camp) which you have to reboot to access, or through an application called Parallels. Parallels lets you run Windows (or almost any OS) in a window on your Mac OS desktop.
Personally, the reason I use a Mac is because I simply don't have the time to deal with computer problems. Mac OS is very reliable and good at taking care of it self, much more so than any version of Windows I've used. I'm much more comfortable depending on it to "just work" than my Windows machines.

undergo in ideas also to do somewhat prognosis on Yahoo solutions in this question. that is almost certainly a properly-friend. the answer is continually diverse. the real answer lies in what your son needs. youngsters can adapt to technologies very honestly and Mac application is intuitive by using layout, so your son could have a a lot a lot less demanding time with the Mac. don't be to worried about technical issues. There are a mess of help understanding bases available on the web for any questions about issues that you may journey with a Mac. And tech help is continually only a telephone call away. that is real that Macs fee extra (extra acceptable pc) and that is harder to get service for (do not damage down frequently, for this reason no choose for most service centers), yet you'll discover that you're going to spend extra money getting a computing gadget fastened (frequently) then a Mac will ever fee. The lower back possibly not. so a techniques as college artwork is worried... Public college structures for years and years were predominately Mac. i believe the in ordinary words reason that they have switched to pcs changed into on the theory of fee (even if the tech help branch both doubled in length or the present techs became VERY busy). Macs do not require 0.33 celebration application with the intention to run maximum application. there are a selection of application titles to settle on from for school applications. that is real that there are some products of application that are merely for a computing gadget. if so a 0.33 celebration application will opt to be put in to allow the Mac to run a homestead windows operating equipment in emulation (Boot Camp or digital computing gadget to call some) or you'll get the present Mac that has the Intel Core2 Duo processor that enables the Mac to run the Mac OS and/or the homestead windows OS natively without an emulation software. in short, do not enable your unfamiliarity with the Mac be your guidance guide on even if to purchase a Mac or not. provide it a danger. you isn't making a nasty selection.

Mac hands down no question.
My Mac starts up in around 10-15 seconds, the OS never does mysterious operations in the background slowing the whole computer down, doesn't demand that you get security updates every 5 mins, is immune to 99% of viruses, connects to networks instinctively and without hassle, is super easy to navigate, is intuitive, and, as long as you don't run Microsoft products on it, runs much smoother and faster than a PC of the same spec.
They are expensive, and Apple Mac would have you believe you can only use Mac products and accessories. But no, you can use PC monitors, mice, drives, cards, you name it.
And they look prettier too. So there you have it. Once you Mac there's no going back.

Hi,
Good grief!
You want the book version or the short version?
Windows is the most popular operating system on the planet.
Windows is also at the same the most poorly designed, poorly implemented, memory inefficient, security lacking operating system on the planet.
OS X is based on Unix which is one of the worlds most stable and secure operating systems on the planet.
It was developed in 1969 by the folks at Bell Labs.
Windows was 'designed' by a Harvard dropout computer hacker with little or no design skills with regard to software architecture.
The pros for windows is that it has the largest 3rd party software following. Meaning that because most people use it there are more programs that will run on it.
If the same number of people used Apple, Linux then there would be loads of better software for those platforms also.
At least with those platforms, you won't have to restart your computer every other day or twice a day.

to set the record straight Macs are much easier to hack than PCs reason there are more people that say that pcs are much esier is because there are about 1000 pcs to 1 mac in ratio. Macs used to be great for photo imaging but there is so much more plugins and software for pcs that makes them more atractive to use then macs. What is undesputable about macs is music processing, and editing, as it refers to playback, but pcs have the edge when it comes to video editing again because of the vast amounts of software. I have seen the commercial and they are true as it refers to how equiped a mac comes compared to a pc. A mac has everything you need out of the box, in a pc you have to purchase what you need and more sometimes. Overall out of the box PCs are nothing compared to MACs you get a better deal with a Mac. In the long run upgrades and specific software PCs have the edge over MACs then again MACs already come well equiped.

I had been using Macs and liked the ease of use,
but then I lost my head and thought I'd buy a
Windows XP to try it out. Big mistake for me.
It works OK but is too slow, Like a dummy, I got
rid of the Macs. It also comes up with different
screens even with the same input.

Ill just list the pro's of each system having used both the latest builds, listing cons is to controvertial:
MS Windows:
LOTS of software
Functional
XP and Vista beta have never crashed for me (user error is the only cause for most people)
Lots of support sites.
Secure if you use a firewall
Comes with anti virus and firewall (Vista)
Free updates (unlike MAC where updates come every 16+ months at $169)
Easy to upgrade hardware
Cheap to upgrade hardware (costs a bomb on MAC because only offical MAC Stores sell them)
MAC:
Beutiful
Elitist
Few viruses because no one cares about such a small group of uses (under %5 percent).
Good for photoshop

Depending on what you are going to do with the computer would determine what platform you should use...If you are going to edit video/images then get a mac it comes with great video editing and image editing software that windows lacks. Also Macs have a built in app called Calender which Windows lacks (a calender) unless you purchase Microsoft Office...
